As I teen I worked for my cousin at his shop which was dedicated to Porsche's and other Euro exotics. I've spent the rest of my life trying to own a Porsche. Divorce certainly set me back a huge chunk and child support hurts but I'll still get there one day... Hoping mid 40's is it even if I fall way too close to the mid life crisis cliche, IDGAF it shall be mine. BMW is keeping me entertained in the meantime. As for the OP, he works at a dealer it's a no brainer IMHO.

I drove my friend's 2010 Cayman S extensively for many months. Probably one of the best handling cars I have ever experienced....but the seats and cabin are relatively small and uncomfortable...and the cargo space is very limited. Other than that, its the perfect car IMO.

If you don't give a hoot about practicality and space (not that the F22 is very spacious), GO FOR IT!!!

My cousin has a heavily modified 2004 Boxter S (sent it to some race shop in Florida and it's now a 3.4 liter). He let me drive it once. I basically went up my street and turned around and brought it back. My 6'4' frame and size 14 shoes made it impossible for me to drive. I kept hitting the brake and clutch at the same time. Definitely a tight cabin, so I will take my 235 any day of the week.

How is it possible to fit into a Cayman/Boxster at 6'4" Glad you managed to get inside.

Jump on it!

I've had a Cayman S and its a wonderful car. Far more practical than people give it credit for. Sure, only two seats but two trunks, too! I've hauled everything from groceries to lumber. Plus I could take it to the track. It's a far more involving ride than the M235i. Don't get me wrong, I like my M235, but it's apples and oranges.

Go for it dude, I couldn't agree with this sentiment more and was a reason I went from a 328 to the 235. Seems like I'm just one step behind and a porsche would be lovely at lease end. Enjoy the time you got and if you can do it and it will make you happy, go for it. Especially if you can get a great deal.
There was a post probably about a year ago on the M3 forum about a man who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and purchased his dream car (M3) for some good road trips and thrills in the time he had left. The thread is worth a read if you can find it, emotional, but thoughtful. It was such a brave post and I was happy that he was able to do that for himself at the end of his life. After reading the post and having also lost many close to me too early, I decided its never too soon to live like you won't be around forever.

I test drove the Cayman (base) 6-speed before buying the M235i.... TAKE THE CAYMAN!

As much as I LOVE my M235i and am a huge BMW fanboy, the Cayman is on a whole new level....ESPECIALLY the Manual. I always thought BMW manuals were the best....well, the Porsche is all that and more!!!! And the sound!!!! I know I sound like a teenage girl, but seriously there's NOTHING like a Cayman....

The only reason to drive a BMW over a porsche is either practicality or price...The porsche does everything the BMW does, except better!

Absolutley no reason why someone cannot have a Cayman for a daily driver. It handles better whether its on the track or street. Gas mileage is a push. Unless you carpool with more than two people...Cayman all the way.

I completely agree. The car has PASM, which really softens the ride (unfortunately) had I ordered this car I would have purchased Sport Chassis.

In my 235 I usually don't listen to music and run in sport mode the Cayman I test drive the engine racket got tiresome after 3/4hours- it's not even the loudness of the engine it's the vicinity to your spine. Used to drive an air-cooled 911 and the engine bring twenty- inches further back and lower made it a lot more pleasurable on long drives.
But a 235 in comfort mode feels like a Mercedes E-class.
I'd probably go with the Cayman deal above but if I were dependent on in car telephone usage I'm not sure I'd want to do it in a Cayman.

+1

Some money is in the bank. The kids will go to college. The dog is fed. I'm getting my toys before I kick the bucket.

OP Excellent choice! I've got an M235i on order, but my long term plan is to get a 997 GT3RS. The 2 will hold me just fine until I can bring home my ultimate Porsche.
