Is it worth it? First world problems
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section
I'm somewhat in the market for a 228i and came across thisdeal I'm sure the deal it self is great but I don't know if getting this car would be a wise decision for me. I have a Mon-Fri, 9-5 job however I don't drive but take the train to commute to work. I spec'ed the car out to exactly how I want it and have been thrilled about it ever since i ordered it but because I would be hardly driving it, I am not sure if I am making the right choice of getting it. I currently don't have a car except a motorcycle which I intend to sell during the summer. This has been my only outlet to relieve stress. I am not saying I can't afford it however money is money, and why spend it if you don't have to. This car would pretty much be a weekend car, and occasionally would drive it around during the weekdays. I know financially it'd probably be a better decision to not get a car, however i know i won't be happy to pass up on this car and deal. ( Did i mention that I fell in love with this car when I test drove it? ) So..do I pull the trigger, get the car, enjoy the car, and live? Or do I not buy the car, save my money, and just be unhappy for the time being? ( I know I know.. first world problems.. boo hoo.. ) |

Ben Stein wrote a terrific piece last year on what's great about owning a car...

I have a drive way and garage to have it parked so that isn't the problem. Its a matter of want vs need. And I want the car so damn bad haha Last edited by xtlwulf; 05-20-2015 at 12:52 PM.. Reason: edit |

It's a snappy, fun and in my mind very well appointed smallish car (which I like) that I use as a DD...I've never looked back! I will also say that I have the AT as I just love "blipping" through the gears! |

If you could afford it, why not do it. You only live once.

This car is the first expensive car I've ever had. Did I need it? No. Did I like my Mazda3, yeah it was awesome for how much it cost.
But this car put a huge smile on my face every time. I don't regret getting it one bit. I'm 29, have a daughter that is 1 month old. My dad told me I better lease it now because in 4 years I'll be driving a Hyundai Santa fee thinking I'm the coolest person in the world. They say possessions don't make you happy...I love my car and yes, it makes me very happy! |

Hey man pull the trigger! I currently commute to work with my M235i and within less the year will be in your situation having to take the train to work as moving buildings. But yeah, I didn't need to lease this and pay the money but at this point in my life with nothing weighing me down I didn't think twice....I pulled the trigger quicker than I thought I could! Need to enjoy while still young! I am!

If your set on buying a car then of course get the car you like the most in your budget.
I drive into the office a couple days a week which is why I got a 2 series since it is a great all around DD and fun weekend car.

You have described the perfect scenario to have a great 2 series. Man, if I could just take the train to work and back, I would be happier.

Pure weekend car - maybe a new Miata, CPO Boxer or similar?

It's fine. My wife has a wagon, baby only goes in on weekends when we're out for a drive or a single errand. Baby does not go in the car for multistop errands. We also have a car seat that has the base that stays with the car. Makes it super easy. All her baby stuff fits in the trunk as well...A lot of people will whine and say it's awful, don't do it...ect...I think people just like to whine.
