Your dealer submits to BMW the production number which is tied-up with the dealer's allocation. BMW accepts and assign the build date. The build date is usually a week. Your car will actually start build somewhere within that period. It normally takes approximately three days from start to finish of build. Another week or so waiting for transport to Beemer Heaven, then assignment to a ship for transport across the pond. Then to a VPC where it will go through Customs, EPA/DOT certs, port-installed options, etc. From there it will be transported to your dealership or PDC (if optioned as such). All of the above should take around eight weeks or so. Good luck and enjoy the waiting room. We've all been there and done that!

The date would tell you when it would enter production. This cannot be exactly known/calculated based on the production number.

If you were doing European Delivery, the delivery date would also be given to you along with the production number so you would know for sure that your car would be completed by that date.

You can get on MY BMW or call the 800 number and track the progress made on your car using the production number.

I hope this helped.
I missed the first reply since page went over.

Thank you for the reply

I am finding useful information on this board and bunch of nice people

Anyway, good luck and congrats! It's worth the wait. Good choice on the color and 6MT!
Thank you for the reply

I think I should go ahead bug my dealer for production date.

I've had bunch of fun cars in my life and currently,I am having a blast with my auto 328i. My lease is up so I test drove M235i and I was sold.

I was in the same situation...had a 328i lease that was up. I looked at a few cars but when I test drove the manual 235 it was game over! The 328 was a great all around car but i was never like ' I just want to go drive it'. The M235 is a whole different beast! You will love it. I decided to add the M performance exhaust at the port...honestly that was the best thing I did. Don't even need a radio when it's in sport mode.

Our M235i is still sitting at the port. Called our CA yesterday about the status/date of the Perf Center delivery in SC... Came back with an earliest date of May 21st. We placed the order for the car on Jan 30th. We think they didn't have an allocation at the dealer right away which caused some of the delay but when the car started it's build, BMW 800# said it was going into Baltimore and on to the dealer. We also think the CA screwed the pooch on the PC delivery at this point but he got it changed. Unfortunately, we think this mixup caused the PC scheduling delay. Anyway, we called yesterday and had it changed to the dealer being that we couldn't understand how, if everything was done correctly, BMW would have a 4+ month lead time for a PC delivery... We were looking forward to the PC delivery but I guess we can schedule a plant tour later when we are in the area. Sheesh!

I feel you on that. 328 is a great car overall but I guess I am used to older mid compact sized 3 series. I am not a big guy so 328 didnt have that fit-like-a-glove feeling. I was also looking at 435 and felt like riding a small boat to me. when I sat on a cockpit of 235 everything just felt right at home and with all that extra power I will always have grin on my face.

VIN # assigned today, and the car's on the line, 3 weeks before the original allocation date. Scheduled completion April 8.

Figuring at least 8 weeks to make it from there to PCD, sometime in June looks likely.

So: Ordered March 12.
Production # March 12
VIN # and Production start: March 27.

I believe the last 6 digits of BMWs VIN numbers are assigned in sequential order. Last 3 of my VIN are 249. Is yours in front of or behind it?

All the tracking stuff really pulls you in. I think BMW doesn't have more detailed tracking because everyone gets sucked into the hunt for information and the mystery at certain spots when no info is available. What a way to create a bunch of junkies craving their cars.
It's evil and delicious all at once.

Trust me ....tracking your car will become your #1 hobby the next 2 months....like supernaut said, it's an evil obsession but it just sucks you in. I never spent so much time online in my life except for those 2 months tracking my car...like a crack obsession...(allegedly).

It really is an addiction, This is my second car that I have tracked. When you know the car is done is the worst. Of course the last time I did this it was made in the states(Dodge), so this is a little harder.

Yeah. I still have the tracking plot from my 2009 335 while I was waiting for it to be redelivered after ED.

Managed to get another $1,000 off, though they didn't want to move at all.

Now onto the break-in period... this whole process requires a lot of patience.
