M235i nearly hit. Dash Cam footage

Well, this dash cam continues to prove its usefulness capturing some close calls. Love those M235i brakes! Pardon the language, I was a bit pissed off. I bleeped it so it is not so bad haha.

If he/she would have just commited from the begining it would have been a non issue...I can't stand drivers who are timid for no reason, I'm not saying don't be careful just don't drive like you scared of life.

Actually, you can cross over a double yellow in the US when turning onto or out of a driveway or parking lot, assuming there's no signage prohibiting it.

She does suffer from hesitation hang, though.

Pretty sure you both saw each other with plenty of time to react. She hesitated thinking you may not see her. Totally her fault. Then again maybe you didnt see her...we are looking through the eyes of your dash cam...not your eyes. If the dash cam were your eyes I would have just braked an let her out...and cussed at her poor judgement. It may have been a he...sorry if I offended our lady posters.

I feel your frustration. Fortunately, no impact. Wanna see something scary. Imagine being on a motorcycle and seeing the exact same thing. Much scarier, and the worst part is that there is a good chance they would keep going because instead of looking for any size vehicle, they're in their own world ignoring oncoming traffic. Unlike my 228 which, of course, has ABS, a bike without them and locking up makes it even worse.

Why have a double yellow then. I swear. No wonder there are so many people who don't know how to drive.

this is exactly what I was thinking.... if your eyes are the road looking ahead you see this situation coming about and have time to react by braking safely.

nice dashcam btw. I have the same one, they come in handy and are worth the investment.

You are right, I had about 1-2 feet on the right to swerve but I didn't want to risk getting side swiped! There is no telling how far she would have went into the lane if I didn't honk and stop. I am really careful with my 2er haha. Better be safe than sorry.

A double yellow signifies no passing in either direction, but you can cross it to make a turn. However at this location, she was crossing a double-double yellow which is the same as a raised barrier (at least by CA code,) and hence, no crossing at all. It looks like she was trying to squeeze between the on coming traffic to her left and the OP on her right. She obviously should have just waited for a better opportunity.

Someone noted that the OP could have braked earlier to let her in had he seen her soon enough, but that would be yet another violation on her part - impeding traffic (at least by CA code, if you do any maneuver that causes another driver to brake, that is impeding traffic for which you can be sited (though rare is.) But a LEO could have filled half his quota (which, of course, they don't have....) with just this one incident had he seen it: unsafe turn, turning over a barrier, impeding traffic (both the OP and the SUV coming from the other direction.) And, had metal actually crunched, the driver making the left turn is usually taken to be at fault in absence of other significant blame.

Nicely avoided, and fortunately that didn't happen at higher speeds

Varies greatly by state. No issue for what she did in MA regarding the lines (and I don't know what the case is in AZ where this occurred) but she could easily be ticketed here for failure to yield.

State-to-state changes can get you in deep. Here in MA, it's legal to pass on the right if you are on a limited access highway. Very bad thing to do in Europe or other in some other states.

Sometimes you see something happening and you say to yourself "They're not going to do that are they?" And sure enough they do! Idiots.

I was once in a similar situation with my 1 series, no dash cam footage though. The road was much narrower, the driver didn't even look at my way and drove almost to the front side of my car and on top of that the road was very wet and slippery. Luckily I avoided and drove onto the sidewalk (no damage to the wheel or tire luckily), and even then I was inches away from crashing into her. Then she just drove off like nothing happened. In the end I caught her and we had a little talk.

Understand why you're annoyed but tbh it would've been much safer to slow down and be pissed off instead...not like it's a blind corner, plenty of time for you to slow down lol If anything it should be the driver going the opposite way who's pissed off...
