The Golf R was definitely an interesting package to me, because it's a hatchback. But I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and wait for an M2 (and pay more too).
P.S. I've said it a million times, but boy do I wish BMW would bring a 5 door M135i to the States. Better yet, 1M Hatchback

No kids here yet. Just a labrador and golden retriever that would love to join in the fun

I read this entire thread many times, and must admit it's a very pleasant feeling to not have to choose between one of those 2 great little cars -as I'm lucky enough to have both! Just about this time last year - having been driving my F10 528xi for one and half years then, and never being able to settle down to its underpowered engine (considering the F10 size, weight and the fact it was an xDrive model) - I made a difficult decision that I now see as one of better ones in my life: to trade it in for the M235i, while also lease the Golf R (well - I kept saying the Golf was for my wife - but we both knew it has always been a cheap excuse as my darling wifey is not an enthusiast driver, and could happily continue her DD in the modest Suzuki Swift she had then). So even though she now uses the R on everyday basis (100% city), it's obvious both the R and the M235i are both mine - and I couldn't be happier Also, the icing on the cake is that my wifey's Suzuki continues it duties as my daughter's first fully owned car - and I'm really happy my beloved girl gaining her experience as a driver in what probably is the most safety - features stuffed car in its segment...

But seriously, we had a Lab once and she was the greatest companion. She very happily did 32k miles with us and our 2 kids, camping in our tent-trailer. Every time I brought out the trailer, she was in the back of our Explorer, staking out her spot while watching me hook things up. She knew fun was about to happen; swimming, retrieving, sniffing...

Just to stir things up a bit, what do you think of the just released numbers for the Focus RS? 345hp and 6MT. I think Ford is taking no chances and want to be sure they beat ALL versions of the Golf.

I don't see that car coming here though. Between that and BMW essentially refusing to sell Tourings here, we unfortunately miss out.
