Why does everyone want to race me?

At least 3 times a week I get some dude that wants to race me. Tonight it was some dude in a yellow ZL1 Camaro. Honestly, with that much power (580 HP and 556 lb.-ft.) he probably would have walked away from me. Still, I get so many looks from Mustangs and regular Camaros. It's kinda funny. I guess I should take it as a compliment lol.

Well, I'm at about a 1:3 ratio right now lol. Luckily it's in a "highway" with stop lights and a 55mph speed limit. I'll play for a couple of gears and then shut it down. Lots of LEO's prowling around.

The last time I got involved was a old A8 was doing like 120 to catch me while I was going around 80 and slowed up to cut me off with a clear lane then tried to gun it and I kept right up and he swerved all the way over to an exit...That got my goat and ended up chasing him off the exit just to do a flyby. Most of the time I am pretty good at ignoring it. My prior car was a 370Z and like usual had the same issues..but that was mostly by civics and other cars you wouldn't think would want to race lol

Wow, folks must be a lot racier in SC than where I live.

At least 3 times a week?! I haven't had a single challenge in over a year of owning my M235i. In 10 years of owning a bright yellow Mustang GT, I got challenged exactly twice. Not proud of it, but I did take on one of them - and then realized immediately afterwards how dumb it was to be sucked in - racing is immediate loss of license in CT.

They're called rednecks out here lol. Not too much rice which is actually kinda sad. I grew up in Hawaii where being ricey is the norm.

I get challenged a lot here in Columbia. Most of the time it's by 1 series owners and the typical tuner wannabes. Everyone here drives like a bunch of clowns most of the time. I'm always on the defensive. It will probably get worse when I start molding my car.

I just ignore them. I was at a quick trip and a young guy pulled up next to me in his infinity version of the 350z(I forgot was it's called). I fiddled around in my car to see if he would go way, but he kept pacing around the lot, and I could tell he was waiting for me. I finally just got out, and he asked me if my car was an M car. I told him no. He complemented me on it and ask if I wanted to run it out. I declined.

Ha, live a little dude. I didn't buy a M235i so I can drive like a grandpa all of the time. If I wanted that I would have bought a F30.

Drive your butt to the racetrack and race there. I was referring to grown men driving up along other cars in attemtps to get them to race on public roads...fast and furious generation is childish and stupid...that is not living...it's tempting death...life is too short....we don't get allot of time as it is.

Yeah, planning a trip to Atlanta with the local BMW CCA chapter. My bad on misunderstanding the other part though. I do find it odd. When I pull to a nice car I look over, look at the car and then give the driver a nod. Don't need to prove anything to them though.

No worries...I am 48 years old and have two older brothers that are gone already. One did not make it to 40 and another did not make it to 50. Neither passed in car accidents...but I have an extreme respect for how precious life is.

Same here, plus an occasional Mustang or Camaro...

I've yet to have anyone try to race me, though I may have missed the signals. I wouldn't race them anyway, it's not worth it on public roads.

No one has really tried to race me in NJ. In TX I raced a C7 and an RCF.

I just feel my car looks really mundane, especially in MG.

I have people pull up to me all the time on Route 80 in NJ on my way to or back from work. Most of the time I'm oblivious to it though.

Damn, really? But up north right?

I'm staying in Central NJ. Too many 1st gen Asians (immigrant) whom drive Camrys and the like here. But even the occasional performance car...no race.

Well, there was one time in 295 on my way down to Cherry Hill. Saw a CTS-V coupe. Pulled up next to him, it was an old dude. He punched it and I could hear the supercharger whine. I punched it and kept my foot down for a few seconds then realized he just never followed through. From then he just kept his distance.

I was like WTF?

EDIT: on the same trip back a Jeep GC kept tailgating me and every time I hit it, he'd catch up about 10 seconds later. When we finally lined up, I noticed that it was an SRT. I took off. Not sure if he gave up or his GC was THAT slow.

We lined up again and I kept on it...up to XXX. He was nowhere to be seen. a few miles later he did a flyby.

The diesel truck tuners here are always trying to F around with us import car people. To their surprise, I don't think they have any idea of the small petrol turbo engine capabilities in these cars. Because I have yet to have one that actually pulled away from my 2er and the GTI (GTI is faster in a straight line, than the 2).

Fun times in the mountains here as we challenge other cars up the steep grades, and late braking on the way down, but we don't do the crazy drag/street racing you guys do in the bigger cities. So it's never a "perfect drag race"
