M Performance Limited Slip Differential is finally back on the configurator!

We now can easily see what the MSRP would be if we were to order a car w/ the LSD.
It was an option in the configurator for several months, then they took it out. Now it's just back on.

If you really wanted the LSD, you had to ask for the quote w/ the dealer in order to get the pricing.
I think my dealer was quoting exactly the MSRP ($2,490), so that was a good thing. But I had to pay for the install. if it comes from the factory, the 2,490 is embedded with the installation, so I get to save hundreds of dollars right there.
In case you guys are considering ordering an M240i w/ LSD, here it is!

Thats a crap ton more reasonable than it being a port installed option where they over charge you ~400 for the install AND you dont get back your original open diff

Still a very expensive LSD thats pretty tame WRT lock up (30%)

Side question: what is the benefit of this part in particular? I saw it online about two weeks ago and wondered how it differs from what the car has stock.

The purpose of the LSD is to make both rear wheels have similar traction.

Take a look at this video. You can skip to 1:35. It can be seen as a safety part depending on your driving style. In a standard car, if you drive over a pool with the right wheel, that wheel will spin and you won't have any traction in any wheels.

With an LSD, the system will "know" you are driivng over a low traction surface and will limit the power to that wheel. it will also send some of the power to the opposite wheel so both wheels have traction.

At least that's my understanding of what it does.

Very interesting that it's an option for the xDrive model.
