That's an interesting case. The process might be more dependent on the rules and laws of the country you take delivery in than EPA certification (which might only be required if shipped to the US and done at the port).

From the BMW Military Sales site:

"We'll deliver your vehicle to your local BMW dealer, provided there is one in your area of deployment and national legislation permits the import and registration of US specification vehicles."

The rules in the US are more strict than they are here in Germany I believe so I don't think they will hold it. I know that it has to clear customs first though (just the paperwork portion) before I can take it from the dealer, even if it is at the dealership.

Just talked to a Genuis rep who said that MY17's have both and EPA and a IIHS hold. He guesstimates late Sept for MY17 cars to be released from the port. Now, since most X models are made in SC they already have their certification.

MY17= Model Year 2017

Hi - The Morning Christina reports that it is at the dock unloading as I write , so we'll know soon if there is still a hold. The "status" update on our end is still showing that it is waiting for an "Engineering Data, Release". Hopefully they are just delayed in removing it.

Opposite coast, but Genius just told me the work order is done, shows customs release and liner release, so it is just waiting for a truck to ship out on. Waiting for confirmation from my dealer, but it sounds (hopefully, fingers crossed) like things are moving!

EPA certification shouldn't take that long. That would probably mean BMW is holding them for a specific later US launch date then... That would suck considering Europe already started taking deliveries. Fingers crossed that's not the case.
