The fact is that any car out there is a year older, because we just turned a new calendar year! So the price goes down, FOR ALL CARS, not just M235s. If there is some real data showing a sudden plunge in market value for this particular model, I would love to see it.
I guess I just bought mine for more so to me the prices are "tanking"! Just a matter of perspective.

Anyway what you're saying is essentially what I was saying, sorry for using tanking.... New stuff is out so old stuff is cheaper. I think $30k is very reasonable for what you're getting.

All that said if I was the OP and had a $30k budget I'd be looking into a 2016 camaro SS. I always hated how those things looked (2010-2015) but the 2016s look much better IMO and performance is up there with an m4.

Good luck OP! From a FBO m235i and previous 335xi owner, take a good look at a 2016 camaro SS

A bit of caution on the Camaro. Granted my experience was with a base model, but the suspension is very nice on good roads, but very crashy on bad stuff. Also, visibility is worse than awful and the transmission is less than stellar. Granted my experience was with the base turbo-4 so the V-8 may be totally different.

Thanks for the insight everyone. I feel like the minute I get in the 228, I'm going to wish I had the 3.0, coming from a 335.

I'm also a bit concerned with the price they want on the car. 2015, 40k miles (which means someone had a good time with it for 2 years), and they want 29.5k. Is it even worth spending that on a 2-3 year old car with 40k on the clock already?

The reason I like it is because it's under warranty, a 6 speed, and has all the options I'm looking for right from the dealership, which is nice considering I don't have my own garage and would rather finance the upgrades I would make rather than pay for them outright.

Price seems a bit high with the mileage. Just go and drive it to see if you like it. If so, do your homework on pricing and make them an offer you could live with and see what happens.

If you really want the car and it is otherwise sound, make them a low offer. They can always say no.
But in order to put that many miles on a car in two years, there may have been a lot of highway driving, which is easier on the vehicle.

For 19k with 8k miles that vert has to be a salvage title, those prices are not in line with a realistic 15/16 235i

Edit, lol ok this is why its 19k

The 2nd car on that list is a buyback lemon. OP You're looking at high 30s for a decent 235i with reasonable mileage

OP you'll likely regret the 28i if you go with it, the 35i really is a much better option with far more power. The 28i isnt a bad car, far from, but its a distinct 2nd place.

...IF you prefer optimizing power over optimizing steering and handling. Neither choice better nor worse than the other...just different priorities for different preferences. When I had my test drives of 2s, 3s, and 4s, the 228i was my 1st place for the steering/handling feel with more than enough power outside of a track.

Dunno man I see a shit ton in the low 30s... I get that the 19k was salvaged but a quick search for m235i's on cars.com with a max price of 35k yielded a ton of options. Specially if the OP is looking at a 228 w/ 40k miles for 29k

You may also want to run a search of this forum for issues with clutch/dual mass flywheels, especially with a used car, where test drivers may have added some 'dog years'. Personally, I would have a hard time buying a MT used if I did not really know the previous owner - too much room for driver error to tear up the clutch/tranny. Of course, you could hit them up for an extended warranty as part of the deal, then it would be fine (if it explicitly covers clutches - but check, because many are told these are 'wear items' or that the damage was user error and not covered). If I understand it, 'CPO' doesn't actually mean 'warrantied like new' - just b/c they checked things like the clutch doesn't really mean they are warrantying it to last. MT cars are usually harder to sell, so they may be willing to work with you.

And r.e. other side threads, I picked the 228 w/AT as my definite first choice over 235 for balance and all-round usability (would have gone w/ a 370z instead of the 235 if that kind of power was what I'd been wanting). They really are different cars, and I didn't see myself getting enough fun out of the extra HP to give up the handling, gas money, and the extra up front cost. If they had been closer in price I might have gone for the 235, but I think I would have regretted it (or been in prison - nearly there with the 228, which is more than fast enough for me).

There both fast, just depends if you like 4 cylinder or 6. I never liked 4 cylinder but many are fine or prefer it.

Thanks for all the input everyone - I think I'm going to hold off and save a little bit more for something I really want (an M2 or M4). To put the icing on the cake, the car has a pair of Pilot SS, and that's an absolute no-no living in Ohio (and probably why it's been on the lot for awhile). I can't justify spending 32k on a car after taxes all that crap and then having to put another $1200 in to it for run flats.

My 335 is a rocket and, even though it's an auto, I've always got the paddles if I get bored. Figured in a few years I'll be able to keep it for a daily driver AND have another 335 or an M series. Sometimes we get impatient because cars are a thing of beauty.

This is the smart move IMO
