Yes I read that too. If it looks the part and gets the advertised 200+ mile range then the CPO 128i or E90 328i I'm about to buy might will likely my last BMW for a long while, maybe forever. I would have considered the i3, but the all electric range sucks and it looks atrocious. There isn't a single car BMW manufactures right now that interests me, and I don't really see much on the horizon either. I remember walking into the dealer and wishing I could have one of each. Now they're just....cars.
To funny I can relate to a lot of what you said. If I could buy an electric convertible the size of a 1er / 2er I'd be in electric heaven.

Put death to the the electric car unless it has a range of 450km no matter how hard you drive it.

The sad part is, that is the END of the 3 series. Every single basic 3 series driver will be in that Telsa 3 - I may get one as a daily.

At least Tesla looks like a normal car. iSeries is trying too much to look like its some futuristic non-gas-tooting vehicle from the 2050. Just make it look like a normal BMW - what's wrong with that?!

if it looks like a model s and is 20% smaller (as predicted), you are right and ill be putting a deposit down come march next year when the concept is unveiled.

as for bmw.. im sure you'll get halogen headlights, pleather seats, no navi, no tech and still be over 40k.

Bmw is not competing with tesla, they are just pretending to, like GM and the rest. They will put out cars with 20-50 miles electric range and a gas engine and claim they are alternatives. Tesla is in a league of their own
I'm not into this market yet, and I'm not going to I think about it in the near future...
That's why

Until BMW or any other manufacturer sets up a super charging network, I wouldn't look twice at their EV cars. What's the point of a car that you can't drive long distance in?

BMW are building EV cars, Tesla is building an EV infrastructure.

The next BMWi vehicle is still coming around 2020.
I was thinking that's a long time but then my brain started working again.

Its already less than 5 years away and the length feels about right to build a new car. Also gives time to see what the competition has up their sleeve and gives BMW a chance to respond. The info is in line so what BMW previously said what they was doing with the next i car.

If was looking for a electric car, I really really like the i3. An iX3 or iX5 would be sweet.

Not interested in this market. Sorry BMW. Why can't some smart German guy invent a V12 that does 10939393 mpg using that new gas audi created that burns cleanly

Agreed....

However, while MB is killing-it over in their camp, Tesla cannot be ignored !

Yeah, it's a big segment I know!
Tesla in California just like Honda Civic, I saw it everywhere

I'm not liking the FWD and its related news from BMW...maybe it's the reason why I have a bad angry attitude about most of their news recently

I see... Well then it better be a Model III competitor or they are in serious trouble.

The next generation BMW X3 will be offered the X3 3.0e xDrive. And then the upcoming BMW X5 and X7 will be offered with Performance orientated Power eDrive with xDrive.

As of now BMWi is focusing on the four door BMWi model.

Well, the hybrid storm is coming, and againt the EV, i'm in the former camp, not feeling the EV at all.
Heck, there isn't even a standard in the business on what kind of charger there should be yet, it's at beta stage at this point.
Instead, the X5 e-drive is very intresting where i live (Norway) against the similar powered X5 with pure gas, the hybrid will cost you 200.000.- less.
That's about 25.000.- USD.
The 330e is closing in, and the news from Scott regarding the X1 with e-drive is also very intresting, wonder if it's powered by a B38 going by the numbering 2.3?

There is a charge standard.... "CHAdeMO" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHAdeMO
BMW collectively with VW Group and GM choose (BETA NOT VHS) the SAE Combo plug instead of CHAdeMO that has been out for almost 5 years. So BMW majorly fucked up to choose otherwise.

Reason why, you cannot charge on a Level 3 unless you are in San Diego or for that matter in France.

Very good points. It's scary how few charging points exist in the UK, somewhere large and diverse like the USA and Australia how could you live with an EV only!

Surely for now EVs are luxury 2nd toys and city only mini cars.
