It would be interesting to see this vehicle here in the U.S. and market it.
A new segment where BMW is demonstrating that it can offer more than one would imagine.

A car combines the space of an SUV combined with an crossover and dynamic handling and proactive characterizes BMW.

Your competitor Benz B Class is in sight! It will be a fight for glory!

Munich vs Stuttgart

I'm not going to lie, this interior looks REALLY GOOD!!! This is my new favorite BMW interior. Much better looking than the B-Klasse. I'm shocked how nice it looks in the photos. Of course this may be their best interior combination they'll offer (read: most expensive).

The interior looks great & will certainly win potential buyers over. Maybe this is all part of the marketing to detract from the fact its not "the ultimate driving machine" in its class. Some quotes from the Autocar review:

“The other failing with this particular model was the gearshift. While the stick is sportingly short and short-throw, its action across the gate is surprisingly notchy. The detent between first and reverse – which are next to each other – was also awkward and it needed a very firm shove to get it into reverse gear.”

"lacks the fluidity of the best front-drive rivals."

+1!

how does it manage to weigh that much and be smaller the F31, thats why its slow and mpg is not as good

I heard one yesterday, the exhaust sounded louder than the 328i which didn't make any sound at all...

I think M-sport looks worse on this car. without it, it looks more elegant and purposeful. M-sport reminds me of those little Nissan Cubes/honda elements/ some japanese market only boxy mini cars with look fast go slow look . you might as well do quad exhaust but dont forget active sound as well.
in the end for me M-sport is better reserved for other models.

This, in Estoril Blue and M Sport, would look sick next to my EBII M235i.
I agree with you, in M Sport trim, this looks pretty good for the utility vehicle it is. Seems you would have the perfect garage setup. a daily utility vehicle and a fun rwd rocket.

Looks like if you want to buy a BMW these days you have to be careful as some real dogs. That Autocar review seems to say if you buy the diesel it's pretty poor given the premium price

If Mercedes has the B-Class, I have no problem with BMW coming out with this. I'm less concerned with how this will affect BMW's image (maybe in here it will but to the majority? Doubt it) more concerned if BMW didn't offer something to compete with Mercedes' offerings.

I don't think it looks that bad. Bad would be the Mercedes B-Class but the lines on the AT, from the profile at least, looks like a Golf but BMW's version. Maybe that's just me but if you like the Golf, I don't see how you can't appreciate the AT unless you're letting that badge on the hood change your perception of it.

As a MINI owner, I would consider this knowing that shares the MINI platform and already knowing how a MINI drives, the 2er AT will just add some BMW refinement (just look at that interior!)

If you read the thread, the number stated has been shown to be gross weight. The weight is 3031lbs according to AutoCar.

Yah they gotta watch dilution of the brand... But this vehicle can add profit to the bottom line, add more buyers sooner and add more bmws per garage than currently today..

If it adds profits for development of the next generation M Cars, "enthusiast cars?" You should be clapping your hands with glee at the role this vehicle can play in the portfolio...

The vehicle with its price tag targets younger buyers into the franchise sooner (biz that would have gone to Toyota or Honda) and therefore you got a better chance of moving them to a 2,3 or 4 later with incentives, pull aheads etc...

So then you've acquired a long-time buyer earlier and you're adding profit to the bottom line to help develop the next generation of M cars and enthusiast vehicles...Yes, a pattern is developing..

So thats the penetration strategy....What about a buy rate strategy too??

How about more bmw vehicles for households that have one bmw today? This vehicle can also serve as a second car for current bmw owners who's second car today is a Camry or Accord due to budget reasons..Now they can have the second BMW in the garage and BMW has more $$ at the bottom line to help fund future M car and enthusiast vehicle development...Theres that pattern again

This is the biggest move by BMW since the ev....

No problem with this model however I don't get the name.

I don't see why 1 series has to go FWD with no RWD option. God help us if the rest of the 2 series goes wrong wheel drive.

We sampled the 225i first, with front-wheel drive (all-wheel drive is optional) and the obligatory eight-speed automatic, a unit supplied by Aisin.
How is that comparable to a 8 speed ZF unit?

Doesn't ZF also have a FWD 8/9 speed auto?

M Sport treatment definitely fixes the front end, interior looks modern and sharp. I hope it comes to Canada
