With the good of the M3 comes the bad
The bad is the heavy right foot I have suddenly developed. So after ten years of not being pulled over for speeding, I finally got stopped tonight for speeding. My prior car was a 550i, and though I drove it hard on occasions, I never found myself on the side of the road with Mr. Law flashing his lights behind me.
Whenever I get in this car I do have a proclivity to drive more aggressively than I used to. I do try my best to reserve good judgment and only get on it when it's safe to do so, but man that S65 motor is like a hot chic that keeps teasing you, begging you to punch it and then you give in. Thankfully, my PBA card got me off without being fined with points up the wazoo. For the most part the cop was not an ass, and just told me to "slow down buddy" He did ask if I knew how fast I was going, I replied "no, and I apologize officer if I was indeed speeding, because this car is pretty awesome and sometimes it's difficult to drive it slow". Now I will keep my high speeds to the back roads, or it might be time to start tracking to tame my heavy right foot. |

What's a PBA card? Professional Bowling Association, LOL?
Seriously though, tracking helps me, though I wish I could get to the track more often.

It's actually the opposite for me. Coming from a automatic 335 I found myself driving like a typical "bmw dousche" but now I usually just cruise and let ppl cut me without blowing steam. I find that with higher end cars you don't feel the need to "prove" anything so I just take it easy.

That's awesome that he let you off. I find that if you have a clean record, they are likely to let you off the hook. That is, of course, if you are polite and respectful. Of course, that doesn't always work... stoooory tiiiime.
About 1 year ago, on lunch, driving back to the office in my 2009 M3. I wasn't even "having fun" - some dude was doing 20 mph on the on-ramp to a highway where everyone goes 80+. I, of course, put my foot all the way down, and ran second gear to redline as soon as I hit the highway. The pass around the idiot I did legally, if perhaps on the aggressive side. This happened to be where the work zone signs were posted (although no actual working in that area) and there happened to be an officer in traffic behind where I merged. I respectfully explained the situation and that did little to persuade this particular state official. He put my statements on the ticket as if I was admitting to it. In that little description area, he put something else quite odd.. said something like "white male in a black BMW..." which I found very out of the ordinary. Ended up w 80 in 55 WORK ZONE. Oh well, I was certainly in the wrong here, and I called a traffic attorney less than 5 minutes after getting the ticket. Got it reduced to 9 over and most importantly, no insurance points. |
