M235i check engine light.. iDrive showing all systems okay
Happened after driving spirited in sport+ Car still drives fine.. Nothing unusual. Unplugged MAF sensor off the BMS intake and plugged back in.. Still showing light. Checked the 2 connections for the tune. Everything seems intact. Any ideas? Last edited by kd0t; 01-15-2015 at 12:05 AM.. |

You have BMS Intake and Stage 1 tune?
I'd bet anything it's an air mass code from the intake. BMS has come out and said their intake is for use on a JB4 equipped car. I had the same setup as you for a while with ONLY those two mods and check engine light would come on every 50-75 miles. Go to pep boys, they'll check it for free. |

Good to hear you got it resolved! I did notice you had the exhaust flap mod, but based on what everyone is saying who has done this mod (here, f30, f80 forums), no one has said it threw the CEL. Well, now we know this is possible.

I'm going to unplug it again today and see if it's really caused by it. |

i have the BMS intake and regularly get a CEL, sometimes it clears itself after a few startups . I pulled the code using the torque app and it was a MAF related code, I forget the exact code but the BMS intake definitely can throw codes, I usually ignore it , or clear it on my phone

Yeah I think it is the intake as well. I remember reading a post by Terry saying there's a spacer that you can put in between the intake tube and the MAF sensor which will reduce the number of CELs and also help with rough idle (if you have it)

Is it the BMS Intake and BMS Stage 1 Tuner together that causes the CEL, or just running the Intake by itself? I ran the aFe intake with BMS Stage 1 for 1500 miles and never had a CEL. Actually never had a CEL with the aFe Intake and any of the tuner boxes I used (Dinan, BMS, or aFe).

I have er catless downpipe with bms intake and jb4 stage 2 running map 2. I started getting the CEL after i installed my intake so im assuming its whatver the maf sensor code would be? Wouldnt my jb4 clear that code and keep it cleared? Any expensive damage to be done to the sensor or anything else for that matter with the intake on?

Seems like its the luck of the draw here? Has anyone contacted BMS about this or had a chance to check the code while it was on??

Burger has said the intake isn't made to be used without the JB4. Not BMS stage 1. |

Anything to do with the maf sensor orientation on the bms intake? Sensor facing up so you can see it or down and you cant see it when putting it in?
