hey guys so im not sure exactly what happened, but the other day i was on my way home when literally out of nowhere my car started to cut power and suddenly flipped into neutral and completely shut off and wouldnt turn back on so i rolled it to the side of the road and called BMW roadside, they came and picked up my car, this morning i get a call and they told me that my motor was gone and they are ordering a new one from germany.

Any idea how this happened? Car is not tuned, all i have done is the BMS intake and a muffler delete.

Need more info, could be anything from fuel injection malfunction and hydrolocking cylinders to an oil pump seizing and sending metallic bits throughout the engine to an engine block cracking.

Try to get more info frm dealer or if you have more details on what you heard or felt the hours before and up to stalling

yea honestly ive asked them like 15 times, but my SA keeps telling me that my motor is gone, and im like "do you know why?" but personally i think that the oil pump seized, but i was just interesting in what you guy would think.

You think they're sending the engine back to BMW for forensic?

Also any other info such as had only the dealer been doing oil changes or if you've been doing oil changes with which viscosity.

No bmw just said that they have ordered a new motor from germany. And the car only has like 4500 miles so i havent even changed the oil yet

I genuinely think and hope that everything will be fine.
I was watching a YouTube video about the LibertyWalk shop in Japan ( don't think any less of me ) and I noticed ( I believe ) in Jay Leno Garage videos also, when they lift the engine out the top, they use a thick kind of bubble wrap and proper tape placed along the edges and corners of the fenders, hood etcetera.
If it were me I'd buy the material and ask the tech to install.

If you watch through the vid below you'll see the protection taped on. For the example in Jay lenos garage, it may have been the last restoration blog video a month or so back and the car was a Cunningham.

Sorry about that OP ... Many things can damage an engine, it could have been a defective unit ... good luck and keep us updated

My turbo blew on a completely stock car ... I got new OE turbo and heavily tuned the car, 70k miles later still running like a champ

1200 miles should be more than enough
