Questions about Charge Pipe

Hey y'all, so I got my JB4 installed a few weeks ago, and I know upgrading the charge pipe is extremely important. I had a few questions though.

1. Im assuming ER is the best brand to buy, right?

2. I notice on a lot of sites there are two different types of charge pipes. What's that all about?

3. Are there any good vendors/ members that y'all would recommend buying from?

Appreciate any help!

Yes the ER is the most popular. With the m235i there are 2 versions, one for Xi and one for RWD.

They come in polished or anodized black finishes.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.

Do you sell both versions? Because I noticed two sets but couldn't see which was which.

EDIT: I have Auto RWD

What you are probably seeing by different "types" is the upper and lower sections of the charge pipes.

Thanks for all the help everyone! One last question: which section is more prone to breaking? The TIC or the lower section?

Ive been told that yeah, if youre tracking or running race gas, the chargepipe is important. but if you are lightly modded with a jb4 and dp its not "extremely important" as you said...am i wrong in this?

The charge pipe which is directly attached to the turbo housing is more likely to break i'd imagine.

My 135i N55 (sold now) blew the OEM charge pipe twice at that location, and that was stock.

What kind of symptoms our car experiences when the OEM charge pipe breaks?

The cold side chargepipe is the one that could actually break, that's the one you want. It will be the more expensive of the two.

If you have a dp, I would get it. Best peace of mind ever, ER makes the best CP

No boost and you need to tow your car.

1- ER has the best charge pipe

2- ER offers the regular charge pipe ( connects from the intercooler to the throttle body). This charge pipe is prone to failure and i strongly recommend replacing it. When making a purchase you need to let the vendor know if your car is auto or manual, RWD or AWD.

ER also offers another charge pipe, the Turbo to intercooler charge pipe. Unless you are tracking you car often, i would not worry about this charge pipe.

3- Mike @ extreme Power House is the best vendor in the world

Depends on how bad the leak is. It could range from a warning message that informs you of a boost leak and puts your car in limp mode to no boost at all and the need to tow the car

Thanks for the information. Any way to visually inspect or tell if it is going, or, do you just have to wait for it to go?

I suggest to get a better one before the stock one fails.
More than likely, it will not show any sign of failing until it is too late

Mike,

Do you have a video or instruction on how the ER charge pipe is replace in our M235i engine. The instructions that came with the unit are for a BMW 335 and I feel that the way is done on our cars is a little bit different.

Will contact ER tomorrow and see if they have an M235i specific installation guide
