My redelivery is coming up. I've got 150 miles between dealership of delivery and the place I'm having the car detailed and fully wrapped, over shitty California freeways. I have access to an F150 and can rent a trailer from UHaul or something. Is it worth trailering the car down to the shop? Do you guys think I'm less likely to pick up any rock rock chips with the car on the trailer behind the truck?

Cheaper option would be to grab a few rolls of painters tape and tape the front, skirts, and edges of the wheel wells and then drive it down like that. Dealer may look at you funny while you spend 30 minutes taping up the car, but who cares.

I honestly wouldnt worry. its possible by some freak accident you get a ding, but I drove 1500km through europe before it arrived home for its xpel treatment and there wasnt a single mark.

If it was me i would drive it.

Painters tape at least. If not you'll be biting your nails over 150 miles (not fun!)

I used road wrap driving my car 350mi back from the dealership to home and then detailer's place. Worked great.

I guess I should've said, I used xpel track tape when I was in Europe and it was a pain in the ass. I think we spent two hours covering the full front bumper and half hood. Plus the flares. Was just thinking about trying to avoid that hassle.

Most new cars from the port are wrapped. It wouldn't hurt to ask the dealer to leave the wrap on? They can also deliver the car for you, btw.

Or just drive the car as its meant to be driven. Sure, you will pick up some road chips and nicks along the way but thats what a driven car is supposed to have. I'm all for vehicle upkeep but this whole idea that everything has to stay absolutely perfect is beyond me. The only way to have a perfect car is to have one with zero miles and keep it in a bubble....not much fun if you ask me

Doesn't make a lot of sense to spend $6k wrapping a car that's been sandblasted...

I did this on my 15. Worked like a charm. I did get a few looks on the highway. My detailer said quite a few customers do this.

Ask your detailer - they'll know what comes off easy, etc. Probably best is the advice above: to get the dealer to leave the factory plastic on it.

Can you drive with the factory plastics still on the car? I have to drive 350km to my Xpel detailer at highway speeds.

Why not get a car cover for the trailer if you are that worry. Just make sure the cover is really strap down. If you’re really that worry then go for a enclosed trailer.

Pay the stealership vig and have the dealer stealership wrap it.

I do not think it's worth it. I drove 174 miles from the Performance Center in SC to my detailer and the car was fine. Drive carefully and you shouldn't have any issues.
