My new 2 series
So I upgraded from my 2012 128i w/ m-sport to a new 2014 228i. Took some comparison shots that I thought you guys would like. You can really see how different the cars are when they are side by side! I love the new aggressive look of the 2! The 2 series has premium, lighting, and technology packages as well as black kidney grills and a carbon fiber spoiler.

By golly, I also went from a 2012 128 Sport, Steptronic to a 228 MSport Manual. no regrets at all. Loving it

Nice! The side by side shots really highlight the design of the 2 in comparison to the 1. Congrats!

Agreed! I was slightly concerned when I was hunting for a 2 that it was too similar to what I had. But after seeing them side by side, my 1 looks really dated. The electronic steering isn't that bad at all, and the 2 definitely feels faster. I haven't really had a chance to stretch it out, but I will be sure to post updates as it compares to the 1. The interior feels much more modern as well. Overall, very happy so far.

They seem the same to me. Haven't really noticed a difference to be honest. Ill pay extra attention next night drive and post back. Ill have to check to see if they have the cornering lights like my old 1. Ill see if I can get some night shots as well.

It's funny, every time I've had someone in my car and we've seen a 1-series they never believe that the 2-series is the direct replacement. Def more revolutionary than evolutionary, at least from a cosmetic perspective. I can't think of another car with a bigger change. New TT vs old are night and day different but still look "the same" for example.

I saw the first 1 series I actually liked at a light yesterday, it was a 135 convertible in black. Black paint is like a black dress on a fat woman, hides all the wrong bulges. I actually think the rear end might be better than the 2 series but that's it. 2 series is much more modern and big improvement overall.

EG2322, I love the side by side comparison of the two black sporty BMW cars! I wonder if my salesman on Friday will let me part next to my new car to take pictures and compare since I am getting the BMW alpine white again but going with the black Dakota leather interior this time instead of the Oyster/black Boston Leather. I am going from the BMW 128i to a BMW 228i with so much more packages! I can't wait! I can't wait to try out the lighting package at night around jug handles!
Do you have black leather in both cars? What trim do you have in both cars? |

P.S. EG2322, the black BMW 228i looks nicer with the whiter lights, the black kidney grills, the carbon fiber spoiler, the black exhaust pipe, the more aggressive sportier look, the wider body, the longer hood and just the overall updated look! Thanks for sharing. I wish you would have taken pictures inside the cars to compare the two if you got the same interior also.
Did your 1-series have the idrive and navigation? My 1-series did not but my 2-series will have both of these. If you had both of these technologies in both cars, how do they compare? Is the Dakota Leather nicer than the Boston Leather? Last edited by Lynn_228i; 07-23-2014 at 09:17 PM.. Reason: Meant did NOT...let not out |

I actually think Dakota leather feels and looks a little fake...but maybe it will hold up better. Usually leather that looks a feels nice does not hold up well. |

I hope the Dakota leather holds up better than my Boston leather. My Oyster leather was difficult to keep clean and the bolsters wore with me being so careful. I think the safety belt rubbed on them causing the wear in three years.
