BMW M235i Gets Studio Time With 2002 Turbo
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW M235i Gets Studio Time With 2002 Turbo Auto Motor Und Sport recently had some studio time with the M235i Coupe and they took the opportunity to bring it together with the iconic 2002 Turbo for a photoshoot and comparison look. What we're looking at is a 1973 2002 Turbo powered by a 2 liter turbo 4 cylinder (the first turbocharged production car in Europe) with 170 HP and 180 LB-FT torque. The 2002 Turbo weighs just 2,381 pounds. 0-60 MPH took 6.9 seconds. By contrast, the M235i features a 3 liter turbo 6 cylinder outputting 322 HP and 332 LB-FT. It weighs 3200-3300 pounds and covers 0-60 in 4.8 sec (auto) / 5.0 sec (manual). Beyond the statistics, the photos provide a good look at how the styling of BMW sports coupes have evolved in 40 years time. |

I think the old E82 1 tii would be better to compare to be compared with the lovely 02. Why they didn't do this with the E82? In my eyes it remindes me the old coupes more than the 2 Series.

Hmm, I just realized that the M235i silver cap of the side mirrors is probably an homage to 2002.
Curious what the 2002's gas mileage is, I wonder if 2 series has improved it as well. Last edited by Blackfield; 11-25-2013 at 04:12 PM.. |

I like the 2er. Probably will have one unless the BMW/Toyota collaboration produces something amazing I can afford. Seriously though. BMW is still comparing the 1er to the 2002 on their website.

Every generation since the MKV has been compared to the MK1. It gets old fast. |

I like the 2 series, but I wish BMW would actually create a car that looked like the 2002 if they're going to compare the two. Ever look at a 1973 Porsche 911 vs. a 911 today? It's obvious how the car has evolved over 40 years. This? Not so much.

They did the same thing with the X1 on the diffuser. My X1 28 MSport has a black diffuser but it's not painted black it appears to be be a dark gray poly carbonate material that is smooth and has a shine to it.

Am I the only one disturbed by BMW's obsession with the AT in every freaking press photo?? Sure, for photos to mass market I get it, but this is a Motorsport comparison.... This, how god awful the F10 is compared to the those before, the lack of involvement in BMW's in general these days. I really hope when I test drive the M235i it redeems them.
