M235i Mod Tracking Thread
Updated Thread:
http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1239105 ----------------------------------------------------------- Hi everyone, After 4 years of awesome times I finally sold my 2011 135i DCT and picked up a 2014 M235i 6 speed up in the BMW Performance Center in South Carolina and then drove it down. Details can be found here: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=992919 I already have many modifications planned for the upcoming months. I thought id make a thread to track these mods from beginning to end and provide my feedback on the parts that I will be using. As time goes on I'll continue to update his thread with information, pictures and reviews. Car stats: 2014 M235i Coupe Black Sapphire Metallic Coral Red Driver Assistance Package Driver Assistance Package Plus Premium Package Technology Package Anti Theft Alarm Harman /Kardon Premium Sound Manual Transmission Here are some photos of the car stock as a starting point of reference. Mods: 1) PIA M Performance Parts (Installed at port) I had the following parts installed at port before pick up: - Black Kidney Grilles -Stainless Steel Pedals -BMW Electric Steering Wheel -Carbon Fiber & Alcantara Trim -Carbon Fiber Hand Brake 2) OEM All Weather Floor Mats (Insatlled) Ordered all weather floor mats for the 2 with red trim as can be seen in the pictures below. To be honest I’m not sure as of yet if I love the color of the trim. It’s the same color at my seats but for some reason it doesn’t match when there in. After picture will be added soon. I ordered from this link on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-OEM-F22-...p2047675.l2557 Before: After: 3) Carbon Fiber Shifter (Installed on 6/12/14) Ordered this from getbmwparts.com because it was the only interior M performance part that was not available for PIA when I ordered the car. Had to pass by the dealership and leave the car for a bit today so I asked them to install it while I was there. Before: After: Impressions: Although I only drove with the original shift knob for a few days and this is my first manual transmission car, after installing the new shift knob I did like the new feel. Although it is not a dramatic change in feel, the feel of the throws feel very slightly shorter and shifts a bit smoother which I put down to the fact that the knob is weighted. All in all I’m happy with the new shift knob, more than anything for the look, which it has. 4) Window Tints (Installed on 6/14/14) Went and had my windows Tinted today by Matt at Orlando Window Tint Specialists. Ended up going with a 3M Crystalline 40% Film. Its a bit lighter than what I wanted but this film is great for heat rejection which is really more than anything my priority. Will post up pictures tomorrow as the weather took a rapid turn for the worst and I don't want to take pictures like this. Before: After, Note that for some reason the tint has a purplish tinge in the pictures but in person its straight black and looks great: 5) Radar Hardwire and Mount (Installed on 6/14/14) I purchased a blend mount and a mirror tap from j28designs.com. The mount, although expensive, should provide a nice look and finish to place the radar right under the mirror. The mirror tap uses power from the mirror to power the radar, which keeps cables out of sight and does not require you to run cables all over the car to hard wire it in. After installation I am very happy with the results, very nice and neat. Please find my DIY at the following link: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...3#post16126723 Before: After: 6) Stickers (To be installed) By stickers I mean roundel stickers to cover the blue with black sapphire metallic. Had the same look on my 1 and I liked it. But worst case I can pull the stickers off if I change my mind. I also have the M color grille stripes, which I'll be installing soon. Purchased both from bimmean.com. 7) Painted Reflectors (Installed: 7/12/14) Ordered from mod bargains in Black Sapphire Metallic to match the car. Install should be relatively straightforward. Just installed yesterday and Im loving the way they look. Install was more troublesome than expected, found it much easier after pulling the wheel off. Very happy with the results. 8) Lowering Springs (Installed: 6/29/14) Had my H&R Sport Springs put on today. Love how they look so far. Ride feel about the same, maybe a smudge firmer but does not compromise the ride at all in all. I am very happy with the drop as well. The rear should still come down a tad more but I already love the look. Before and After: For more info and pics check out the thread I made: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...2#post16210462 9) ECS Spacers 12.5mm Front| 15mm Rear (Installed: 6/29/14) I had some ECS spacers put on my M235i today along with the H&R Springs. No issues so far with rubbing or anything like that and it looks like there is plenty of room so it should be fine. Before and After: For more info and pics check out the thread I made: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...2#post16210462 10) BMS Intake (Installed: 7/11/14) Ordered an intake from BMS to install. I’ve been a fan of Burger tuning for a long time and plan to add a JB4 to the mix later on as well. I am new to the intake game, as I did not have on on my 135i but I'm exited to install and see what kind of differences I see in terms of power and sound. Post Install: The intake made a much larger difference than I would have expected in terms of sound. You can hear a lot more of the turbo, as can be seen in the video. This was super easy to install and the provided instructions were great! Also the intake looks great IMO! Also the video isn't a rally good representation of how this sounds now, its just so much louder. Before After 11) Painted M235i Mirror Caps (Black Sapphire Metallic) (Installed: 7/12/14) One of the things I like least about the car stock is the silver mirror caps, ala Audi S series. I just found painted mirror caps on the IND website. The instal was more annoying than expected. I really had to pull hard to get the caps off. Much harder than I expected. Watch your paint when pulling them off as those things can fly and hit the car. But they look tons better IMO. 12) Exhaust (November) After a lot of deliberation and thought I have decided to go with the Tuningwerk axel-back exhaust. This was not on my original list that I was choosing between but I found that for the price this sounds unbeatable. In fact it sounds better than most of the catback systems I've heard. The exhaust has been ordered and should be delivered within the next month or so and I can't wait. Here is a video sample of what this system sounds like 13) JB4 (Installed: 7/13/14) The N55 "Twin Power" JB4 w/ BMS USB Cable Combo and N55 JB4 EWG Harness Adapter was installed today. Im seeing large gains running map 2 at the moment. Being that I installed the catless down pipe today as well and intake friday Im feeling huge power increases. After install I was seeing this warning and also got into limp mode but after reloading the software and setting map 2 its been running great, strong and smooth Update: I finally switched over to map 5 yesterday and found that the car is running much smoother and linearly. I have not logged in both maps to see the difference but it seems like map 5 is pulling as hard as map 2 was. Ill have to do some logs soon to know for sure. 14) Evolution Racewerks Catless Downpipes (Installed: 7/13/14) Evolution Racewerks Catless Downpipe has been installed along with the JB4. So far its sounding better with lots more popping. Check out the video below 15) FMIC (Installed: 9/28/14) Installed today. Amazing how much larger the new FMIC is compared to the stock one. Feeling more pull and I think it looks awesome. Installation took just about an hour or two. No real installation issues. Installed with the new charge pipe from ER as well. Looks pretty damn beefy too... Just mean. Before: After: 16) Charge pipe (Installed: 9/28/14) See prior section for description. Before: After: See before section. Didn't get any picture of full charge pipe. The top part was put in first and then the bottom after. 17) JB4 Bluetooth Remote App(Ordered should be 1-2 months) I found this awesome solution to the lack of steering wheel controls on the F series JB4 in the form of a bluetooth adapter and a JB4 app. Check out the link below. http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21742 Also if your looking for JB4 on Mac solution look no further than this thread as well. Works great. 18) Coding(Installed: 8/6/14) I had some coding done by Okee. He was very professional and helpful and his information can be found on his website: codemycar.com. Whats awesome about this is you pay a fee of around 130 via pay pal and then you have warranty on the world forever. So if you take the car to the dealership for something and they do something to cause you to loose what was coded, he will recode that or make any changes to your coding for free. I had the following things code: 1) DVD in motion 2) Enable Video Via USB Port 3)Turn on Zoom Feature for Rear Camera 4) Diable Legal Disclaimers 5)Enable Tire Pressure & Temperature Readings on iDrive 6)Transfer Phone's Ringtone to Vehicle 7)Disable Seatbelt Chime 8)Close Windows and Sunroof With Key Fob 9)Fold/ Unfold Side Mirrors with Key Fob & Comfort Access 10)Fold Side Mirrors As Soon As The Vehicle Is Locked 11)Disable Window Safety 12) Unlock Doors When Car Is Turned Off 13) Diable Side Markers 14) Digital Speedometer 33) Disable Top Speed Restriction for Cameras 19) VMR's(???) After some thought I am not entertaining the idea of throwing some new wheels on the car. I don't want to change my suspension set up as I am very happy with the drop but I will be looking into my options. Currently I love and am looking towards the CSL style VMR reps. Probably in gunmetal or black. Not sure beyond that yet. 20) Windshield Window Tinting (Installed: 8/2/14) I am going to be having my windshield tinted with 3M crystalline 70% soon. Should help with some heat and eliminate most of the need for a sun shield. Update: With the tint on there is a noticeable improvement in cabin temperature while driving as well as when the car is left sitting in the sun. Although expensive this was a very worthwhile modification. 21) BMS Clutch Stop (Installed: 9/28/14) Installed this today and so far I love it! Who knew such a small change for such a small amount of money could make such a difference. Installation was very easy and I highly recommend purchasing and installing this if you have a 6-spd.

Seems like you're off to a great start.
Where did you order your spacers from? Once you install the IND front reflector deletes you'll wonder how you ever even looked at the car before. |

Hey OP, I'm also looking at the H&R springs with the same spacer setup as you and the BMS Intake.
Looking forward to your review on the H&R springs in Comfort and Sport mod. Your car looks great! |

Excellent mods.
Couple of quick questions - for OP or anyone. The stainless steel petals. The kickplate on the far left did your car come with the stainless steel and you only have the pedals done? In various photos including the configurator it looked as though the 235 came with the metal kickplate but with normal pedals. I understand you had them installed at port, but how do they get installed? Is it something a newbie can do? Is it industrial grade adhesive or does it require drilling or is it snap over? Lastly, on the mats, it looks like the red is a perfect match for the red interior… I have red exterior with oyster/oyster except with the black anthracite headliner. Now that I am looking at your great pictures I'm thinking instead of getting the black/red mat I just need to get all-black. I was thinking the red trim on the mat was going to be for red interior match but also for red exterior… If it's not complementary to the red exterior I just need to get all-black… Any thoughts, anyone? Has anyone seen these in person against the Melbourne red exterior? Thank you. |
