As to the throttle: DSC off being there mainly for drifting purposes, it doesn't put the throttle on the sharpest of settings and purposely so. Ever tried throttle steering in a long curve while drifting? You must constantly change the throttle position to keep your intended curve - only possible with feathering the gas pedal; sharp throttle would not be good for that.

My more serious gripe is that DSC off seems to also put my suspension into a softer state than in Sport (not sure if it's as soft as in Comfort; the differences are subtle). Same for steering.

Confirmed!!!!!!! Software update does not fix this in 2014 models. Solution: Buy a 2015 or an M3/4. dealwithit.jpg

Can't you hold DCS till it turns all helpers off completely then switch to sport + to stiffen everything up.

Source, please?
The issue of DSC off throwing the car to Comfort from Sport mode has been long recognized for each and all models/series (I happen to have been one of the first to post about it in the other F10 forum), so I'm taking both your statements with a grain of salt (about fixing the problem in M235i MY 2015, and about inability to fix this weird behavior in any model, any MY).

It will simply switch from DSC off to DTC.

Sorry I wasn't able to respond earlier,.

In the past when putting the car in sport plus and then turning off DSC (long press) if you went back and push the dynamic control button, it would show that you were in no longer in Sport mode but in comfort mode. (Even thought the big screen in the middle of the dash shows a picture of the car in sport settings).

Now when you repeat the above, the gauge display shows that you are in sport mode not comfort. It's totally possible that nothing changed in the car Settings but that they actually changed the gauge display settings.

I confirm this at the dealer on an M235, 435 and 428 grand coupe

didn't get a chance to drive the M235 to confirm driving. I did drive the 435 and the grand coupe and I didn't feel any different it appeared that the car stayed in sport mode.

So. No fix for this?

This is a potencial legal complain to all m235i owners against BMW dealers all around the globe. I'm from Peru and I have the same issue.

What would be the best mode to drift the car? Just stay in comfort and long hold DTC?

Here's the answer to this puzzling question. Both DCS and DTC are deactivated at speeds greater than 31 mph in Sport+ mode. Here's why:

According to the 2 Series owners manual (pages 111-114) DSC is deactivated in Sport+ mode and DTC is also deactivated when you are traveling at speeds greater than 31 mph. Based on this I conclude that the e-diff is the only thing that is active on the track since most if not all corners are taken at speeds greater than 31 mph.

IMO, the manual is confusing and contradictory on this topic. It could be read either way, and the very definition of DTC in the manual isn't concentric with what people here seem to think it is. An excerpt from page 112:

Quote:
DTC Dynamic Traction Control

The concept

The DTC system is a version of the DSC in which forward momentum is optimized.

The system ensures maximum forward momentum on special road conditions, e.g., unplowed snowy roads, but driving stability is limited.

It is therefore necessary to drive with appropriate caution.

You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC under the following special circumstances:

▷ When driving in slush or on uncleared, snow-covered roads.
▷ When rocking the vehicle or driving off in deep snow or on loose surfaces.
▷ When driving with snow chains.

Deactivating/activating DTC Dynamic Traction Control

Activating the Dynamic Traction Control DTC provides maximum traction on loose ground. Driving stability is limited during acceleration and when driving in bends.

Activating DTC

Press the button.

TRACTION is displayed in the instrument cluster and the indicator lamp for DSC OFF lights up.

Deactivating DTC

Press the button again.

TRACTION and the DSC OFF indicator lamp go out.

Above 31 mph/50 km/h DTC is automatically deactivated.
Based on the description here, it sounds like the "DSC OFF" state is linked the activation of DTC. When DTC deactivates at 31 MPH, DSC turns back on. This section is also intended to describe the behavior when DTC is activated/deactivated independent of the "Driving Dynamics Control" (the rocker switch that controls ECO, COMFORT, SPORT, SPORT+). The operation of the DDC also impacts DTC and DSC in the ways described under the specific sections.

Quote:
SPORT+

Sporty driving with optimized chassis and adapted engine control with limited driving stabilization.

Dynamic Traction Control is switched on.

The driver handles several of the stabilization tasks.

Activating SPORT+

Press the button repeatedly until

SPORT+ appears in the instrument cluster and the DSC OFF indicator lamp lights up.

Automatic program change

When activating cruise control, the program automatically switches to SPORT mode.

Indicator/warning lamps

SPORT+ is displayed in the instrument cluster.
The DSC OFF indicator lamp lights up:
Dynamic Traction Control is activated.
If the "DSC OFF" indicator lights up, then DSC is off. If it doesn't light up, then DSC is on. I think it's that simple.

My M235i is a 2015 - manual transmission.
Build date 8 / 2014.

Same problem as everyone - when I try to turn DSC full off, it takes me out of sport mode (same thing in sport+) and sends me back to comfort mode - making it nearly impossible to drift.

I read the entire thread and still don't have clear answers to 2 things:
1) what is the best mode to drift in?
2) can my 2015 car (Manual Transmission) get an update to let it shut DSC fully off AND stay in Sport+ at the same time??

I also watched the Chris Harris video and read this thread: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1017054 but he was using a euro spec car with the LSD (which I don't have).

so what is it that make it "impossible" to drift with DSC off ?

suspension stays in sport mode with DSC off... it's just the throttle mapping that reverts to the less sensitive setting

so not really sure what you mean....

The best way to drift is to press and hold the button until everything is turned off.
