Driving the Deutsch Alpenstraße

Hey guys - I had to come here to share this because you're really the only ones who will totally understand.

On Saturday (10/4) my best friend and I are flying to Munich.

We have rented a BMW 1er from Sixt (and I have sent countless emails asking them to be sure we get a petrol engine and hopefully something bigger than a 118i). They don't make any guarantees, so fingers crossed. One weird thing - Sixt has 4 series BMWs now, but when I asked to upgrade they told me that vehicle wasn't available in Munich. That sort of blows my mind. You'd think they could make a little jog over to the Welt and pick one up. Lol.

I digress. The point of this thread is to say we're driving all over the area - Salzburg, Slovenia, down to Venice and then back up through Mittenwald to the German Alpine Road.

Totally stoked. I know the 1er will be a downgrade from my M235 here at home, but I'm sure being in Germany will more than make up for it.

Stop in Maria Woerth Austria on the way to Slovenia. Watch the construction zones in Austria. They are most likely camera monitored.

Have you driven in Italy at all? They have unique styles and if you have a police-man pull you over you will need cash in many cases.

In Austria get the Autobahn Vignette! Its not expensive and if you attempt to return to Germany without it, you might owe alot of money if the ASFINAG are monitoring the border roads/Autobahn.

Have you driven the roads here in Europe before. If not get familiar with the road signs. It makes things smoother. I think you have a super trip planned. Hopefully the weather will be pleasant.
