Right front 1/4 panel EXTREMELY hot

M235i MY14
Wondering if any of you guys have noticed how burning hot the right front quarter panel gets on this thing. After opening the hood I rested my hand there (just above the light) and nearly burned myself.

It concerns me for the long-term life of the paint there. I worry it might start to break down.

If it was above the light that could be an issue. These lights give off alot of heat especially from the heat sinks that sit right behind the lights. I know I didn't address your paint concerns but that's what the heat could be with regards to.

I have the same problem on both sides. I have felt the light's heat sinks, but they are not hot. I think the heat comes from the intercooler (>105 degrees C).

Paint is designed for extreme temperatures, after all it's designed to bake under the constant heat of the sun in the Arizona desert all day and then absorb heat from your engine. Temperatures that could easily fry an egg/boil water/burn the crap out of you.

I would not be concerned about it.

Checked mine when I got home tonight after a short 10min drive....it is the upper front of the fenders right behind the lights...mine registered 125.8 & 128.6 with a IR temp reader......Has to be the headlight heat sinks. Some one is going to burn the shit out of themselves on a hot day

I doubt its C..that would be 257 degrees, which would be dangerous and cause major burns.

That's nothing then. I engineer things for vehicles and we design our plastic parts to with stand 90° C (194F) because that's the type of temperature the interior of your car will see when parked in the Arizona sun. (You'll see people from Australia and the SW USA complaining about the paint on their radio keypads cracking under this extreme heat).

The exterior panels and paint of the car will easily withstand temperatures well beyond that.
