My car has a shake through the chassis from 75mph on up . Feels like wheel/tire issue but dealer has road force balanced twice and no real change . It's not awful but it definitely detracts from the driving experience and I'm not convinced the car is safe at high speed. Dealer isn't all that interested in engaging further because the car is basically performing within spec under 65 mph . Wheels are stock 18" with Perilli Cinturato 225/40/R18's.. One tire was deemed bad as they felt it has a shifted belt, but the shake still remains. Car has 2500 miles on it and has had this problem since day one.

I'm wondering if this is a common issue that others have experienced and if so, how has it been rectified? I realize this is the first year the X model is available and I just hope there is not something inherently wrong with the design of this vehicle. I don't really know what to do next- and would appreciate any advice you guys can offer here .

That's not normal. Speak to a manager at the dealer, or take it elsewhere.

Thanks for that. I should also mention one wheel has a series of six press - on weights, with three more 1/4 oz weights stuck to those. - a layer on a layer with over 2oz of weight put on by the dealer. Doesn't look right to me. Considering bringing the vehicle to the performance shop in a nearby town that specialized in wheel tire issues to get a second opinion

Unless you have spacers installed, this is definitely a wheel/tire issue. Get them to dismount, remount, and rebalance them. My 235xi is perfectly smooth (staggered summer tires) but I have noticed more oem wheel balancing weights installed than I am used to having.

The weight applied as you describe reads like poorly executed work.
If you feel vibrations in the steering wheel then front axle issue. If you feel shake in seat its a rear axle issue.
The minimum they should do is switch resr tires to front and vice versa.
Drive shaft should be checked for out of balance with a dial indicator.
With a speed like 65 confirm if rpm or speed related by duplicating in different gears.
Dealership may not be using best techs since it is warranty work.
Their 65 mph specification for passing inspection is stupid- I doubt they'll put that in writing.

Update: brought the car to well respected wheel and tire shop. They found 3 whels out by at least 1/4 oz. and one out of round tire with road force =26. Paid $210 dollars to undo the botched road force /balance job the dealer performed and am working on warranty replacement of out of round tire . Car already tides much better : 70% better ( all tires now balanced properly) .

Sad you had to go to that length but I'm sure it is worth it. I would have done the same. You should send the bill to your stealership.

As Transfer said, take the bill to your dealership's service manager and explain you'd like to be comped the price of the bill since his techs couldn't/didn't care to balance tires. You may even be able to throw around the threat of calling BMW NA to explain the situation as well.

My advice is not even bother complaining to the dealer. You should complain in writing directly to BMW NA and ask for a refund. The warranty repairs are covered by BMW NA not the dealer, so they should refund what you paid. Your letter should have copies of all the work orders and receipts.

And find another dealer...
