Woofers/bass just disappeared. It's all treble/mids in my car now with the Harmon Kardon stereo. I'm guessing it's a blown amp? Anything else I should be checking.

I just posted the same thread three weeks ago.
The woofers will come back next time you start the car, it's weird .. Hadn't happened to me again since, probably a safe mode or some other malfunction but they do come back. |

Its just overheated. It does that because the bass uses the most wattage and therefore overheats the amp the most. safety cutoff. You are in Arizona and it's August in the extreme end of high temps of in the USA.

Any of you guys find this as a reoccurring issue? It only happened once before for me months ago and today it happened again. The problem was immediate after the car was off for 4 hours and hasnt resolved itself yet. Any service bulletins or anyone had this repaired?

It's a known issue, and yes: BMW is aware. I have yet to hear about it happening on a 2017 model, which has several 'fixes' to the audio system implemented. That doesn't mean that this is among the fixes on 2017 models -- just that no one knows if it's fixed.

Also sometimes the left channel doesn't work in the same manner. How do you reset iDrive while driving? There used to be a CTRL+ALT+DEL equivalent button press. |

It's not related to heat. It's happened to me in 70 degree F weather car parked in the shade/garage overnight and it went out. A few others on this forum have confirmed the same. The issue is that it cannot be fixed if it can't be replicated on demand. Only work around is turning the car off, locking it and letting it sit for 5-10min.

IIRC, I think it happens at start up and remains disabled until car is turned off. |

Anyone know a process that can be started to try and contact BMW about this being a common issue? Maybe somehow get a TSB going...I found an older TSB related to overheating AMP from 2008: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194133

I've never had this happen, I'm out in CA and it's been 100+ degree days. I have the front camera go out before I have my AMP go out. Perhaps there is something in your trunk area that is holding heat against it?

It's not the heat. I had this happen once and it was a 70 degree day. The bass amp was dead on start up. I turned the car off, let it go into sleep mode, restarted, and the amp was back on.
