My Favorite Convertible Accessory Needs Help

The SmartTOP is a wonderfully functional piece of technology for convertibles.
One touch up and down and a host of other options. They need a test car to use for manufacturing in either Las Vegas, Los Angeles or Phoenix.
Since our 2er is so new they haven't had the opportunity to get one. Any volunteers? If so you can easily contact them on their website.
I HAVE NO FINANCIAL INTEREST IN THIS COMPANY, I just love the product but am in PA and want a SmartTop for my car.

Todd, I have a similar product that I bought in Germany for my SLK, and yeah, it's very cool IMHO.

Mine (wish I could recall the name, but I bought it 10 years ago) is a device that you wire into the car that allows you to open and close the top with the same remote you use to lock and unlock the car. You don't have to hold the button down while the top is in operation, and it works from the same distance as locking/unlocking. My understanding is that the product Todd is referring to is very similar (and no doubt more modern as the world has changed so much in the last 10 years).

What I miss most is the one touch top opening and closing as I approach or leave the car. I also love the one touch open or close while seated.
Here is what it does for the 4 series convertible.......http://www.mods4cars.com/sms/shop/in...de=view&id=140

Like I said the world has changed a lot in 10 years. I like the plug in feature. 10 years ago I was cutting and splicing wires on a brand new $70K SLK55...and yeah I was deathly afraid of screwing something up and voiding the warranty :-)

On my 911 it was just a piggy back module placed in between one connector to the top. EZ PZ

My new 2 series convertible has open and close on the remote. You just keep one little finger down on the remote button. If you lift your finger the top will stop which is a great safety aid.

I just got an email with this link to a teaser video and the news that they are almost ready for production! I can't wait for mine. It is incredibly easier to just have a one touch operation of the top from either inside or from the key fob.
I wonder what other functionality they might include? What I really liked was being able to watch the top open as I was approaching my 911.

Hey Todd, please let us know when this is available for purchase. I have a similar product in my SLK and it's great. We are taking European Delivery of our 235 xdrive vert the second week of October. Have you had any more issues with bent rims?

Will do,
No more potholes, so the rims are holding up.
I have cool carbon brake pads in but the dust is still way too much.
I am hoping someone comes up with better low dust pads.

I just placed my order and it seems as though the install will be fairly simple. There are pics and instructions on the website.
I will let you know how it goes after I receive and install mine.
Can't wait.

I look forward to your installation report. From the installation instructions, the wiring part looks trivial. I'm curious how tricky they physical access turns out to be.

You have Comfort Access which allows this. I skipped the package that had Comfort Access. This and keyless entry are the only things I miss. I'm in if it goes for less than $300.

SmartTop Installed!

I finally had the chance to install my SmartTop module last night and I am very, very pleased with the result. It really only took about 20 mins being very careful. The instructions on the web are easy to follow, the side trim piece was easy to remove and reinstall. The rear seat popped right out as well, but threading the seat belts back through the rear seat took some fiddling to reinstall the seat. The hardest part was removing the original connector and replacing it with the supplied connector by feel alone. I practiced undoing the clip and sliding the locking lever up on the supplied connector first and it did take a few tries to get the stock plug disconnected. Putting the new connector into the female part of the plug was the hardest part and took a bit of trying and they advise patience and it did take that, but it is definitely doable. I have pretty large hands so that didn't help......but I didn't break anything either so that is good. (I did break the tabs off my orange front reflectors while getting those out to paint them body color.)

I am amazed at the improved functionality of this new module compared to my old one on my '09 997.2. I especially like the fact that I could easily program the module when it was hooked up by the supplied usb cable to my MacBook air. We almost always use the wind blocker and have the windows up when driving. The air management is so good on this convertible that my wife loves having the top down. The heat works better when it is cold out and the aircon works better when it is hot. I have my module programmed to open the top with either one touch from the console or a 4 second push on the key fob and then have the windows go up. Super convenient for us and a quick tap of the key fob when the top is opening will leave the windows down. It's nice to have the choice and so easily reverse it. I also programmed the module to work the top even when I turn the ignition off in the middle of the opening/closing sequence. On the 911, if I opened the door or turned the car off, the sequence was interrupted. I also like the reverse action available on the one touch console button, pull up to open and push down to close, that seems more intuitive to me. I think the best part though is walking up to the car after activating the opening sequence and being able to watch it all work. I didn't like having to stand so close to the car and holding the key fob down for the whole sequence to finish. I am very happy. AGAIN I HAVE NO FINANCIAL INTEREST IN THIS COMPANY OR IT"S PRODUCTS, I just like my toys.

I could have sworn I could open the roof of my e46 cabriolet with the fob?

Is my memory going on me? Not sure what the big news is here if I'm remembering right?

Just to be clear, this is still possible with those cars with Comfort Access? Is this correct?

The big news here is it is all one touch, customizable options, and more fun.
Your mileage may vary,
