Dealer says production halted in Germany?
I'll try to make this the nutshell version. I ordered my M235 Aug 30. The guy at the dealership told me it would be 6-8 weeks until it arrived. Ok, sounds fair. After a couple of weeks I called to inquire about the production number so I could be OCD and track its progress. He didn't know anything about that. He said they didn't do that anymore, but that he'd look into it for me. I never heard back.
I called today just to see if they had any update. I was told the guy I ordered from is no longer employed with that dealership. Well, that's unsettling. I was directed to someone else who informed me that my car is in PRE production in Germany, and that NO M235s are being produced right now due to some "rim" flaw or something. He said the delay could go into February 2015. Now, I've been floating around various forums since I ordered mine, and I've seen other people tracking their cars for the past few weeks, so I was hoping someone could help me understand what exactly is going on. Perhaps I do not understand the issue. After all, I am only a woman... right. Is anyone else aware of production being stopped? Last edited by StephanieDiane; 10-15-2014 at 11:36 AM.. |

1. At what point in the process does the dealer cash the deposit check?
2. Is it possible the dealer doesn't have an allocation spot until Jan/Feb 2015? Last edited by StephanieDiane; 10-15-2014 at 11:36 AM.. |

Heh, I read that as a production delay until February of next year.. but no, you actually said February of 2016. Go get your deposit back and leave. It is highly unlikely they do not even have an allocation for you yet or they might have had a few that they SHOULD HAVE given to you but instead bumped you out for others.

for the F8x M3/M4, there is a current production delay for a wheel related issue: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1045392
maybe there is a similar issue for m235 wheels, or maybe your dealer is confused. |

Did you receive a production number with the allotment/order in August? If so I would call the BMWNA hotline 1-800-831-1117. They will provide you more info than dealer. They are very friendly and knowledgeable so it may set your mind at ease.

I never received a production number.
I called a dealer out of state (there aren't many dealerships to choose from), and asked if he could order the car, if he had an allotment now, if it would go into production now (as in the "near" future), if there would be any delay that he could foresee, etc. He answered the questions correctly. I canceled with the current dealer and will be going to order the car this weekend. I will make sure we understand each other completely before I leave the dealership. I swear I'm really a nice person - I just like to be very straightforward and avoid any misunderstandings about this. I know some people waited months to get their cars, but after waiting 7 weeks to find out it wasn't even ordered.... well, I'm feeling a bit impatient. |

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Glad you kicked the other dealer to the curb.
The M235i is a very popular car and sometimes hard to find so there are usually wait times. If you are impatient you may want to look at AutoTrader.com and see if there are any around you. I used it when I was trying to track down my M235i and found it useful when looking for available inventory. |

I ordered on 9/13, and was initially quoted a production slot of week 43 by my dealer.
My production was moved up to week 42, with an estimated production date of this past Monday, 10/13. I got confirmation yesterday from the 800 number and an email from my CA with a screen cap of their internal order status system confirming that was car successfully completed production on Monday and is currently waiting for a ship. Sorry you went seven weeks with nothing; the wait is hard enough as it is. Good on you for ditching that dealer. They definitely don't deserve your business.

Awesome!!! I'm so excited. I'm hoping so hard that it doesn't get stuck at port for a week or two.

Any dealer who is trying to imply that there's some sort of shortage of 235's is full of it. If a dealer places an order for you tomorrow, you can expect the car to be in production in about 4 weeks. If there was any sort of shortage, the dealers would not be regularly discounting them to the extent they are. Right now it's easy to get a 10% discount off MSRP here in New Jersey with a little bit of leg work. Just be aware of who owns each dealership as several of them have common ownership. Heck, you can get more than an 8% discount by just using Truecar.

An M235i just showed up at a local dealer here. I just think they aren't making many.
