M235i EWG for JB4 install help

Has anyone installed this? I have an 8AT and I was warned its a tight fit but wow! I have been working on this damn waste gate connector clip for 2 hours now and I can't remove it!

Does anyone have any pointers? Or what they used to reach it? Please help haha

Wish I could help, just started researching this myself. I take it you did not have any issues installing your FF harness?

I just switched to map 2 without the EWG and FF which will limit my peak boost so I might pick up 1psi 8-12 whp. If I don't feel a difference I will roll back to map 1 and contemplate ordering the EWG and FF for this install which looks to be a PIA due to location and access.

Time for my first test spin on map 2

I had a tough time with it too. What I ended up doing was making a custom tool for it. I bent a screw driver around into a shape so that I could hook it around from behind the plug and get it under the clip.

Tie a small screwdriver too you wrist with a piece of string then menover it into position with you fingers, I think I squeezed in my other hand to pull while pressing the clip with the screwdriver.

I case it helps anyone, this is what my screwdriver looks like after I bent it. This allows me to come in from behind it, get it under the clip and then pull of the connector.

And make sure you put some heat shield tubing over those EWG harness wires and zip tie them as far away from the exhaust components as possible. It gets HOT down there and the aluminum heat shields opposite the engine are brutal too.

You need to have a plan when you tackle it, took me 20 min. Need a long rod or screw driver to push it off the clip from the front of the car while you press the release on the clip. It will slide right off.

Do you have a picture of your wire job?

I just checked under my hood and my wire loom has melted from the heat. Thankfully my wires are still good, but had to re wrap the cables with new wireloom.

I tried zip tying them far away, but not much room down there. Maybe the wireloom I obtained is not the best...

You shouldn't try to scare people from purchasing the JB4 just because it didn't work out for you or you had a bad experience. The reason most problems seem to arise from JB4 users is 1) simply because there are way more JB4 users on every BMW platform than any other tune available. Or 2) install was done incorrectly and then problems arise because consumers want to purchase it and then not put in the work to data log and make corrections. I would say the JB4 is the perfect tune for those who want a more user adjustable configuration and the ability to increase aggressiveness at their own will. Some of us want to push the envelope a bit and see what these cars can truly handle others want a simple tune and leave it. Without that end user adjustability the n54 would have never been able to acheive 800+ whp.. I have been a JB4 user for years going back to my e92 335 and I also install a ton of them for customers and perform BMS backend flashing on the n54 and there is a reason they hold almost all records.

OP if you need assistance I'd suggest using BMS' support forum or emailing their tech support department. The EWG wires need to be routed away from the manifold. I've not heard of wires melting before I read this thread so I haven't paid close attention to that routing but if you post photos on BMS' forum I'm sure they can help you out.

Alternatively the JB4 is the only tuner that offers EWG control. You could not run the EWG wires and not have to worry about their placement and all that extra horsepower.
