Hard to say. With the bore center staying at 91mm there is not much room to go larger. And the cylinder in already over square so increasing that is not likely either. So I would not count on more displacement from M, but it is not out of the realm of possibility.

Is it merely coincidental that these displacement figures have been "thrown around" on this board?

I've grown to think of it as an attractive car, the CLA, but it can't be seen as a car for people who want to have comfortable backseat passengers. BMW, with the GT series is definitely catering to backseat passengers.

The two products have totally different objectives, I don't see the comparison.

I doubt the M2 Gran Coupe will be any better for back seat passengers nor is it meant to be. these companies are NOT creating these cars to appeal to people who constantly have 4 adults in their car. Its meant for younger people with kids up to say 10-12 years old who would have no problem in the back seat. Thats why I am considering this car, when my lease on my 335i is up in 2 1/2 years I will have two kids in boosters, a 2 series gran coupe will have plenty of room for them.

I was really excited to see the specs on the CLA AMG until I read that its FWD unless the car senses traction is needed in the rear and then it goes to a max of 50% rear power. I was hoping for more of a Audi setup, 40/60 standard driving split... Also the interior is really cheap looking on the CLA, the NAV screen is pretty tiny and sticks out like a sore thumb (the F30 screen which also sort of sticks out look much nicer). the big question will be can BMW price the M2 GC at $48K starting price? isn't that what the 1M started at and this is supposed to be more up market... Now the S3 and potention RS3 will be a bigger concern for BMW as they have AWD done the right way and their pricing should be similar to Mercedes, although again the interior is kind of cheap looking and the exterior is normal boring Audi.

BMWs other problem is the CLA AMG arrives THIS FALL! and the S3 next spring, RS3 nobody knows yet, maybe next fall. the 2 series gran coupe is at least 1 1/2 years away and M version probably 2 1/2 years away.

Yes the 2 Series might be behind the CLA and the A3 Sedan. But as the 6 Series Gran Coupe showed that it can be worth the wait. The 4 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe will not be any different. With the 2 Series Gran Coupe now fast tracked for 2015 , BMW intend to make the gran entrance in this segment, the appearance will not just be what counts. With a greater emphasis on dynamics and typical BMW character.

If you read some of the reviews of the CLA there is some ride and dynamic issues that have been picked up by the media.

BMW are pushing the Coupe to retain the benchmark for the compact segment in every way possible. The 1 Series coupe was the entry to the BMW Sport Coupe, 2 Series will be the entry to the RWD BMW with the advent of the 1er eventually switching drivetrains.

BMW are fully aware of the potential of this car and indeed the Coupe , For the current hiatus BMW see the Coupe to hold the CLA and A3 at bay until the arrival of the Gran Coupe.

New 2-Series Gran Coupe Concept

Isn't this redundant with the 3 Series sedan? Sure it's a bit smaller, but that would likely be because they are cutting trunk space.

The current 1-series coupe is closer in length to an E46 than an E46 is to an F30.

If the 2-series GC is an inch or two longer (not unreasonable), it's really going to be sized between an E36 and E46.

Personally speaking, I would definitely be interested in a 2-series GC. Besides the M2, I find it the most exciting thing about the upcoming 2-series.

I prefer (and *love*) this render:

That render is much more appealing. I will withhold judgement until I see an actual car. I have noticed the size differences first hand, I own an E46 and my E82 is almost identical lengthwise with 2 less doors.

In my book, 4 doors does not equal coupe, despite BMW trying by putting "gran" in front.

With that out of the way, i do sometimes wish i had 4 doors for when i drive when im out with friends. Nothing unbearable to live with though. Usually gets me out of driving since nobody wants to sit on the plywood back seats.

I like the blue render as well. I am curious to see it in an 'M' flavor.

Can you maybe fast track it for next week? I'm not waiting for two years.
