Maybe you should watch a couple M135i reviews. All around a better car than the 135i and 135is.

E82 will be easy/cheap to come by anyways once new model hits the streets.

firstly, the F20/F22 is not a 'brand new' car; it's a reworking of the existing E8X platform, still derived from the old chassis (derived from the E9X). Most of the tangible 'differences' it has are primarily technological. 8 speed ZF auto (SKIP). Electronic steering (SKIP!!). artificial exhaust sounds (SKIP!). same e-diff in the back. Sure these things may improve lap times and tech specs (primarily transmission will), but i have no interest in them. Will the M235i be basically that car? who knows...but i wasn't too impressed with the direction the M135i went in.

'better' is such a relative term. it's sort of like those who said an E36 3-series is better than an E30 3-series...in objective terms, maybe...but subjectively, well that will be an argument for sure!

i'm not going to come across as a 'hater' or anything....because i really hope the M235i will be a great car. I just picked up my 135is 2+ weeks ago----after deciding i didn't want the current electronic-revolution going on in the BMW lineup, that's all!

Actually a lot of suspension parts and geometry is very much changed in the M135i. 8 speed auto is very good, agree though...skip (manual all the way). Electronic steering, well that is here to stay. If you want a new car, 9 times out of 10 it will now have electric steering. Luckily the M135i has gotten some really good reviews in that department, hopefully will carry over to M235i or even improve. E-diff... if info is correct, you will be able to order M235i with a proper LSD. A huge plus in my book. If BMW improves upon the M135i, giving it an even better driving experience than it already has. It will be a hit. Enjoy the 135is, it is a fun car. Test drove one not to long ago, but it had DCT.

My E82 was built not only in the same factory, but on the SAME LINE as the F20s being made.

AFAIK, the suspension parts themselves are the same right? The settings and tuning of them has likely changed though. The M235i doesn't carry over the 1M bits.

as i mentioned---i really hope youre right and the M235i is a great car--- i would consider one in a few years.....but i think in terms of an 'organic' experience, the E82 was sort of the last in the line of BMW's carrying the 'old school' spirit til its final end, sadly.

There are 2 cars that interests me more than the M235.. What are they? The M2 and the M235 GC, wait scratch that's.. If they end up making an M2 GC, I might sell a kidney if I have to just to have one..

Don't know whether I should wait or pull the trigger on the M235 ..

I m gonna have to join some of the others in the forum here. M2 or bust for me. I don t care how much of a car the M235 might be. I m not buying any pseudo M car. Unless i m seeing any signs of a prototype M2 car somewhere next year, i m applying for a testdrive with the merc A45 amg. I would like to quote chris harris on this one. 'If you want to buy the bargain of the year, buy M135i, (mechanicly identical to M235i), if you can spend the extra cash, buy the Merc.' Don't get me wrong. I really, really want a M2. However, Not much buzz about it latly. Not since they announced the performance package for M235i and others. LSD, etc...

Well, the M135i have gotten great reviews in Europe and UK, Chris harris said it was a bargain.
So it's really that good!
As for the M2, it should be great, as the 1M was and still imo is!
But it is a different platform, as the 1M was more "old" school, that doesn't mean the F2* is worse though, but different.
So choose your car for your needs, taste and wallet.

You can't go wrong with either imo.

True, grille design and colour will be 'line' specific I'm sure.

I don't know why but for some reason those grille slats are the singularly most offensive design cue on a BMW ever.. IMHO. Wierd, normally I don't get hung up on the little stuff!

That is not what was stated on the forum the other day, the second gen of the 2 series is allegedly moving to the UKL FWD system.

Don't get me wrong I don't agree with it, I hope to God they don't go FWD; the 2 series has the potential to be the biggest seller for BMW, at least amongst enthusiasts who are tired of the 3 growing each generation. In fact they should keep the 1 series RWD as it's a unique product presently, once UKL comes in it'll just be another Golf etc

umm....that's why you guys should have bought an E82!
Haha, I was thinking that too, as it's what we did after driving the E92.

It's not going to... 2 series will stay RWD, and the new up coming 1 series will be front.

I'm divided concerning the slanted slats grille.

This grille is interesting in that it creates the illusion of the old BMW shark nose pointing upwards... while at the same time evoking a feline nose which tapers downards.

However this grille also makes the nose visually smaller, rounder and more cramped up, which in turn makes the front fascia visually less wide and the stance less rooted into the ground.

Car looks good overall, but the grille..........it looks like a rabbit that has never seen a dentist......

It gives an Asian/Chinese look to it, witch I utterly despise....BMW should be proud with their European looks which haven been abandoned more and more, that is what will sell these cars around the world.

??? I don't understand. Do you have some reason for thinking the new 2er will be like the E82, which would be great if indeed it turns out to be more similar to the E82 than the F32 is to the E92. About the only thing that needs fixing in the transition from one 1er to 2er is that ridiculous cup holder and the rear shoulder room, although I could live with both not changing if that's what it would take to get the tight and communicative steering that one finds in the E-series cars.

As for buying an E82 instead of the E92, I would have been fine with an E82 instead of my E92, but in the E9x/E8x era, both cars have/had the sort of feel I'm talking about. It's the F cars that are soft, not the E ones.
