Guys,

I was at BMW Munich to take delivery of my M235i. And had a glitch at their end that the car had display issue. They offered me a tom tom nav during my trip and assured to fix it after I return it and before it was shipped. But I refused to take delivery with known issue.

I am disappointed. But they offered me another BMW as a loaner for my planned trip in Europe. And I took the loaner to travel. However I am not happy as I am not driving my car and having fun and pictures.

What is the members suggestion on this?

I didn't want to ruin my travel but my car was not ready as it had issues

Any suggestion is appreciated.

id be happy if the loaner was an equivalent or better model.

That way you don't have to worry about bagging on a brand new car on the autobahn or nurburgring

It is a 535i (brand new). It is completely a different car. I am fine for the trip.

Out of two things one is fine the other is an upset.

1 travel around Europe. - fine.
2 pickup your car at Europe with the ED experience. - upset and not fine.

Look at the glass as half full. You are in Europe, you did get to visit the BMW center, and you are touring around Europe in a new BMW car (just not yours). Not idea but you should enjoy your trip. There will be time to worry after you get back home, for now just enjoy your trip.

I really don't understand why you are so upset about this. They obviously made it up to you by giving you a brand new 5er for your trip and you get to keep your baby brand new and fresh while taking delivery state-side. What more do you want from them? Shit happens, no company in the world can make sure everything is perfect. When it happened like in this case, they offered a perfectly reasonable solution.

If I were you, I'd be happy and thoroughly enjoy the 535i on a European road trip.

Look at it this way, you can beat the piss out of the loaner on the autobahn and still break your car in properly. Smart move refusing delivery. All in, you're firmly in the land of first world problems.

Thanks guys. I am indeed enjoying my vacation. No question on that. I will worry about the issues when I return. By the way I did breaking the car properly. 1200kms done. Hereafter the 535 is ready to be driven crazy.

I had an issue with my 750Li on my first ED. The cooling fan didn't work and the car started to overheat about 10 km's into my 2 week trip. We ended up being towed to the BMW Munich dealership where we were told (on a Friday afternoon) that it would be Monday before they could look at it.

I called my dealer who got in touch with someone at BMW US ED and within an hour I had a replacement 750i to drive for the duration of my trip. While it wasn't my car so I didn't end up taking many pictures of the car, we still had a great trip - including a couple laps of the Nürburging in their car.

My car was repaired and delivered back to me in the US with 26 miles on it. Looking back on it, I think it BMW did a great job making sure my trip wasn't interrupted and I ended up with a brand new car when it arrived back.

Mac, enjoy the remainder of your trip. The consensus sounds pretty spot on...it was an unfortunate incident but all in all you're doing well.

I'm at Heathrow awaiting a flight home having just ended my ED and now it's back to reality. Just think, you won't have the stress of worrying about dinging up your new M235i....I almost wrecked mine.

Since this is the car forum and my car was not with me, I didn't take pictures of the car. But will upload some pics of alps and some write up. In a short, anyone who is buying a BMW should pick it up from its fatherland and visit Switzerland. It is absolutely stunning. Amazing experience. I will do it again for sure.
