If there is no homologation issue on your side you may install BMW OEM trailing hitch...

It's available for all F22 and F23 except M235i F22 on ETK... (See my post end of page 1).

But I think that it can be mounted on M235i F22 without any concern.

Trouble would be its homologation but it will be the same for aftermarket/custom trailing hitches...

Are you saying that you were able to fit the Curt hitch from the 1 series onto your M235i without problem? That would be terrific. Just want to make sure.

Just have to find an electric kit for the F22 to get the trailer lights to work.

No it did not fit...the comment should have said "Like I had on my 1 series"

I need one too! Don't we need a "receiver hitch" to attach a bike rack?

Bikes on a roof-rack do less damage to a car vs hitch mounted bikes.

Oh goody, thanks Quenotte - I only just read your reply about the hitch being available for the M235i convertible ! That's a considerable relief as that's what I'm going to buy (but have decided to wait to see if the M2 is worth considering). I saw the convertible at the Geneva motor show and it looks a bit too plain to my eyes.

Please explain to me how you figure this?

Hitch mounted bike racks never touch the vehicle. They can be installed without ever contacting the car whatsoever. I can also pop the trunk with bikes installed on my F30 and no problems.

When you go mountain biking, you are taking a bike covered in mud, dirt and rocks and sticking it on top of your painted roof. On a long trip, especially in the rain all of that debris ends up on your roof.

Additionally you have to lift the bike up and line it up to get it on the rack. It's not that difficult but after a long ride if you're exhausted it's easy to lose track of a 35-40 lb full suspension bike.

If you're only doing road biking then you're right it's probably fine, but for those who play in the mud the car is going to take damage, no such thing on a hitch mount.

The bikes actually are what will F Up the cars paint. I see it happen all the time. Not worth installing IMO.

Are you talking about a hitch rack or trunk rack? Hitch mounted bikes don't touch the vehicle so you lost me there.

If you've seen bikes on a hitch hit a car then its not the hitch that's the problem its the rack itself.

They don't?

Not from what I have seen.

There are two common types of hitch racks, bike carriers (which hold the bike by the tires) and top tube racks.

Top tube racks if they aren't properly fitted to the car can have the bike closest to the car have the bars spin and the wheel will hit the car. Is that what you're referring to? For those types of racks you're supposed to use the included straps to secure the wheel to the downtube to prevent it from spinning.

For vertical carriers (which is what I use) the front and back wheels are secure, bars can't turn, and the bike can't tilt or hit the car in any way shape or form. The thule rack I use had enough clearance to pop the trunk both closed and with 2 bikes installed.

Generally if you see the bikes hitting the car, it's a top tube carrier and mom and dad have 4 bikes and don't care about their bumpers of their CRV getting scuffed up by spinning tires.

Yes indeed you are correct, that is exactly what I was thinking of. Funny you should say CRV, I bought an RDX (cousin of the CRV) with the same wear marks lol.

Anyone have any luck finding either a Bosal Oris (or other) Hitch for a 228i in US?

Was hoping to track down one of these preferably with a US style square receiver if that's possible, or if someone in the states is finally making a hitch that doesn't require drilling I would definitely be interested.

http://www.catalogue.bosal.com/pages...bosalnr=050703

Really want a trailer hitch bike rack to avoid possible roof rack collisions with the garage. But, if these don't exist could use recommendations for a good roof rack that don't contact the paint. Looks like the new Thule does which was sad to see but I haven't seen one in person.

Thanks for your help and advice if you have any.

Still no word on a hitch.

I gave up and got one for my wifes truck.

I believe Uhaul will manufacture you a custom hitch if you are willing to take it to their facility in AZ.

Shit If I could get one of those i would have it modified to be a std receiver style.

I actually gave up on it....never communicated with U-Haul but Curt Manufacturing is not interested in producing one. Can is too low numbered and no one near it's prototyping location has been interested. I fold the seats down, lay down a sheet, take the front wheel off and in the back it goes.

Thanks for the help

Appreciate the responses and was planning to do the mod if I could line up the Oris somehow. Have been using the back seat sheet method for about a year now (pretty happy that there's at least this option) but kinda feeling guilty about always making my friends drive when we carpool.

Probably going to have to go with a roof rack. Anyone here able to confirm that the 4 series designs work for the 2 series also?

In one of the BMW accessory catalogs found online, they list trailer tow hitch as an option.

They show it available but at least in the US it is not an orderable part.

The ones that can be ordered (like the one for the 3 series) are also around $850 + installation, which is a bit crazy since a hitch receiver is usually ~$150 and a hitch carrier/rack is $150-300. So 2X pricing for something that will only work on the BMW.

Did anyone ever find a solution for a trailer hitch? I don't mind talking to Curt or UHaul as I'm also interested in a hitch-mounted bicycle.

It sounded like they were not interested due to the low volume of the car.

It's not clear if the F30 hitch would work, but someone would have to buy it and try it to see. I expect it would have bumper clearance issues even if it was mountable.

I wound up just trading cars with my wife when I want to ride.

Good luck with that. I had spoke with Curt at least 8-10 times over a 1.5 year span and nothing. They told me they will not be making a hitch for the 235. I have not called in 4 months....
Give it a shot and see if something changed....I just take the front wheel off and stick it in the cargo area. But I do race a 18.5lb single speed
