What's the deal with the trip computer?

My trip computer in the dash (specifically gas mileage) never seems to jive with the computer view in iDrive. Why? Are they somehow seperate? Am I not doing something correctly?

See gas mileage read outs:

Yes they are separate. They were probably reset at different times. If you reset them both at the same time with engine off they will jive

Bit of a guess (don't have the car yet to be sure), but the iDrive screen looks like "This Trip", the dash looks like "Since Last Fill Up".

I think you may be mistaken. I've had the car for a while now and It's definitely the same thing. They are just two different systems that track mpg. I'm telling you if you reset both at the same time they will both read the same mpg until you reset them both or one of them again. They will not change automatically since last fill up. Only the blue miles gained resets automatically.

Thanks. Silly that they would make you work so hard. Grrr.

Another question...on the iDrive there is a box to check to "Automatically Reset". Do you know when this automatically resets?

I would assume the whole thing (Idrive specifically) every time you start the car, but I've never tried it because I like to control my gas mileage

I'm the same way with gas mileage. So I haven't tried it either!

The iDrive on my M235 shows since I bought it because I never reset it and want to see the mileage I've got since it was new. The trip computer on the dash I reset every time I fill up to show what I'm getting on the current tank

Hi-

I have got a little bit of an off topic question. How come if you don't have tech package your iDrive system looks like the idrive that comes with tech pack? I have a 2014 without tech pack and the color of the screen is much flatter and less animated looking. Thanks!

I know that, my friend has one with tech pack and I can clearly see the difference. But the original poster appears to not have tech package (they do not have the extended instrument cluster nor the wider drive screen). What i'm curious about is that what is actually displaying on his idrive screen has a different appearance than mine even though we both don't have tech package.

Yea, I believe he does have the wider tech package screen, sure doesn't look like my non tech screen.

The auto reset on the drive simply means if checked and car is off for over four hours all figures reset.

What is displaying on your screen looks like mine! But I don't believe he has tech package otherwise he would have the extended instrument cluster on his dash. It looks like he has the same size screen as unless I'm going crazy haha

Maybe he has the Non-tech package with the Nav.

Maybe he had his car coded to activate some tech features on his non tech car. There's a company on this forum that offers that service, can't remember their name though

You can't code a bigger screen? Unless he coded something I'm not seeing?

I don't have the tech package, no Nav and no special coding. My car is a 2015 if that matters.

Hmmm maybe the 2015's come with an upgraded idrive program. I wonder if a dealer could "update" the older version
