We shouldn't expect to see B58TU nor B48TU used in F32, F33 or F36, correct?

i3 is planned for release around 2021 as far as I know.

(yes, it will use the same name as the current i3, which probably will stop production around 2020...)

More than likely not, yes. Typically, any updates to the outgoing generation’s 3 Series variants (which includes the 4 Series despite the new naming scheme) are very minor once the sedan goes out of production, and that will happen in October this year.

Do we know yet if the G20 is gonna have a 330d inline six diesel with RWD? Or are they going only with one inline six diesel in the form of the M340xd?

You are talking about the world-wide market, yes? I have to assume so, but just in case you were referring to US spec vehicles, to be clear, the only diesel coming to the US G20 will be the B47 4 cylinder found in the 320d, and even that is uncertain. Keep in mind that, while in the US this car (if it becomes a reality) will be called "330d", ROW *30d models will continue to use a six cylinder engine for the foreseeable future (quite possibly until diesels are no longer with us, whenever that might be).

I don't know if ynguldyn can chime in and can confirm, but I would be extremely surprised if the 330d were to disappear any time soon. My understanding is that sales of this model remain brisk. And BMW's competitors in this segment (and other segments) continue to offer diesel models with six cylinder engines in the 250hp to 275 range, so it is highly unlikely BMW would exit.

BMW's highest output B57 makes 400hp now. That's 133hp/L so in theory BMW could build a B47 with 266hp. However, it would probably be more expensive than a similarly powered B57 since such an engine would use at least two turbochargers and possibly three or perhaps even four. And it would still no doubt make less torque than the B57 with similar power. It is also not clear how much more efficient it would be once all is said and done. So while it is possible that they could replace the B57 in the 330d (and other non-US *30d models) with a four cylinder engine of that specification at some point in the future, as I said earlier, this is not likely any time soon (if ever).

What is the expected output of the M340i? Is it 355 or 380hp? That is the only model I'm interested. My 340 lease is up next summer

In the OP it says:

"M340i details: same power as Z4 M40i (380hp or more)..."

Nice This maybe the wrong forum, but any idea when the Z4 M40i will be launched?

That would be awesome. I was briefly considering selling my 530i and getting an E60 M5, but now I think I'm going to just go with my plan I had all along which was to keep what I have and wait until the BEV i3/i4 is released. If it looks anything like the i4 concept did, I'm 100% in.

Still some clarity wanted though ... shown for the first time in August? Another post said officially introduced to the world in October (Paris). Will it be ready for order in August or October? First demos at dealerships in October? First customer deliveries expected in ... ?

(Not attacking you, I realize it's not in your control ;-) Just have been waiting a really long time and managed to hype myself up for the new Z4.)

On the M340.... BMW is caving to the rwd mafia in the US? I wonder if it will be cheaper than xdrive variant or a no cost option. Also will be interesting to see if it handles better/differently than the xdrive variant since the suspension tuning and chassis balance will be optimized for xdrive.

However now 385hp!! Love that the power keeps going up!

One interesting option that seems specific to G06 at the moment: "Iconic Glow Kidneys". Because the poor owners of the previous X6 models have been suffering from not being visible enough on the road.
  • Both G05 X5 and G07 X7 xDrive50i will replace their launch version of N63 (456hp) with the same new 530hp engine and become X5/X7 M50i. Here's finally your explanation why they were sticking with "xDrive50i": "M50i" was reserved for the more powerful engine
Thanks for adding these - didn’t see them when you first posted about the update. The M*50i picture is indeed making a little more sense with this news. And finally, G06 info. But I still wonder, when are they going to be caught on camera?

That engine change is going to cause some angst for those who don’t read this thread or otherwise catch wind of it and thus fail to see it coming. The jump from 465hp to 530hp is nothing to scoff at. An upgrade of that magnitude could have made the M3/M4 CS go from “meh” to . And since the engine will be available this year in the 8 Series, which the X5 and X7 will actually debut a couple months after, an explanation like “the engine wasn’t ready yet” won’t work with most folks. Clearly a shrewdly planned marketing move to keep the engine unique to the M850i for the first year. Not that I’m saying there could be nothing else holding the new engine back from earlier adoption in the other vehicles.

Speaking of all these V8 beasts, when’s the M550i going to get the upgrade?

Yeah, I added the update in two batches - had a whole lot of info to analyze and find the real news in the noise. There should be quite a few G06's on the roads in a month or so. I guarantee we'll have good spy shots soon.

Ah, good question, I didn't think to try and figure it out myself. Now, I can't be certain, but the likely timeline is the November 2019 or March 2020 Modellpflege-Maßnahmen (update measures).

So G20 SOP 11/18 then? I can't imagine BMW would EOP the F30 and have no new 3-Series to sell for some months before G20 starts?
