Came across this article from back in March on the B58 engine. It may have been posted here before, but I thought it was worth the read.

Can't see the B58 engines being "friendly" out of warranty, especially for DIY'ers like me. That doesn't mean it's a bad engine, just how long will it run before it all goes south?

Basic oil changes look like a bit of a struggle. AWIC built into the intake plenum? Access to vanos system is nil. Just seems like a lot more to go wrong over the years than what I'm used to seeing, in turn costing more in the long run.

There's something comforting about the simplicity of the N55, to me. Especially after reading this. Thanks OP

Good read, thanks. B58 sounds like a maintenance nightmare though!!

Decent article. The B58 is certainly a more powerful motor. I agree with others that some of the new tech employed is worrisome. If this was a Japanese car, I wouldn't blink an eye, but since it's a BMW, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole until the thing has be on the market for 3-4 years.

There are some issues with the article though.

1) The 2014+ N55s run electronic wastegates.
2) The N54/N55 blocks are far from weak. In stock form, the N55 in the M235 is making more like 350hp. Block issues in these cars, even those pushing 500hp is essentially a non-issue.
3) The crank in the M235 is forged, not cast.
