M235i Ambient Lighting Quick Question

I just went and looked at my car and there is just the empty mounting hole the same as the picture posted by Silver6spd. I do not have the smokers option. XENNY, does yours?
I do have the 0563 Lighting Pkg. so you would think it would be there. I guess I'll have to go and see the dealer. This should be an interesting discussion. I'm sure they'll have no clue. I'll post anything I can find out to help others.
I would encourage everyone with the missing light to talk with their dealership so if someone admits it should be there others can benefit from it.

I have the slit with no light too, lighting package and no smoker's package.

According to the cheat sheet, turning "Nachfuehrung" off "makes the ambient light independent from the cluster", how exactly does that affect lighting intensity?

I went to the dealership and they gave me a strange look as if I was imagining things, it's not the most straightforward thing to explain I guess

It seems as if most of us that don't have the smokers package also don't have the central led under the dash, coincidence?

OP here, I have Smokers Package, but no light illuminated. Need to look and see if something is there. 235 with MT.

That's not it. I don't have Premium Package (but have the Smoker's Package), and I have the center console light above the ashtray/cupholders.

I just examined my VIN decode and don't see anything that specifically IDs a particular interior lighting package. However, there is an interior "Storage compartment package" (S493) that I know is standard in the U.S. that could include it.

Also, a thought: Perhaps this is keyed to the M Sport package (which includes, among other interior bits, the M Sport steering wheel and gauges with red accents)?

i have the smokers pkg. i do not have the premium pkg.

No light.

M240, smokers package (unfortunately; couldn't order the car without it). Nothing special on top of that.

As for coding, I was able to get it off the instrument cluster dimmer (fortunately, since I keep the gagues as far down as they go), but coding brightness seemed to have no effect.

i suppose it wouldn't if you already have your instrument cluster brightness already maxed out.

currently my instrument cluster brightness is about halfway i would say, but ambient lighting is maxed out in idrive. dunno why, but I prefer it that way

hmmm I'm suprised that coding had no effect on the brightness. I had the same reaction as this post http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=439 in that the lighting seemed to get very much noticeably brighter.

This could very well be due to a combination of factors, including (but not limited to):
- Market (EU, Canada, U.S., etc.)
- Model (Interesting that some M235is don't have this light)
- Trim Level (My theory that this is partially tied to either the M Sport trim level or Technology Package still stands, at least for the 2015 model year)
- Model Year

Based on the breadth of haves/have nots regarding Packages (Technology Package, Premium Package, Lighting Package, etc.), I don't believe any of those are a determinant except possibly the Tech Package -- which, of course, now doesn't exist for 2017 models.

(Also: I have experience tracking this kind of stuff. See this thread.
I'm not volunteering, however -- That was a full-on extra radiator. This is a tiny LED interior light. Big difference ... )

Since when the 2 series have smokers package as an option in the US? When I was configuring my car, I didn't see the option for smokers package. I have a 2016 228i

It's standard in the U.S. You would have this part if it wasn't included, and a plastic plug in the 12V socket.

I wonder if it didn't take for some reason. I will admit that I have not checked to see that the value in the car has changed. Maybe I should try it again; I wouldn't mind having it a little brighter.

I normally keep the dash lighting very low. Last night, my wife turned it up and, voilá, the ambient lighting went way up too!
