I'm new in the 2addicts forum and have been looking around what wheels can I get with this new toy. My only regret is the limited selection of wheels I can slap on these. I am a fan of Vorsteiner, but don't think they would work..
welcome to the 2 side. i came from m4 too

The replica 437's OEM concepts are selling on the tires forum are identical to the OEM versions, and putting 19"ers with 265's at the back really makes the car look more aggressive

throw in a splitter/lip and you've made your 2 series look like a big boy BMW

Thank you for everyone's constructive feedback.

Congrats on the car. But just so you know M235i's do not come with DCT. it's the regular 8speed auto.

Great choice. I recently got rid of my 435 after owning my 240 for a few months.

Obviously it's subjective to everyone's needs, but I haven't looked back and having so much fun with my new set of wheels

As the M235i is more fun to drive and we're biased on the 2er forum, go for the M235i and don't look back
I'd much rather have the matte finish in that spot as opposed to the glossy finish.

As a current 435i owner, I'd say for sure get the 235i if they have one you like.

I wanted a 235i from the beginning....the only reason I have a 435 is because that's the only model they had in a M/T and I didn't want to order a fresh car.

As much as I like the 235 (looks, agility, performance, driving feel) there is no way on this earth I'd drive an automatic BMW. So, the 235 wasn't an option for me.

So....I do love the 435, but wish I had the 235 (and would like to save a few bucks along the way also). For the record, the 4-series is more of a "touring car" The 2-series is more of a pocket rocket.... meant to go go go and have fun doing it.

M/T VS AUTO

I agree with the prior post and the M/T . I love changing gears and never thought in a million years would I choose an auto over the manual. Until I drove the 8sp ZF in the M235i. It really makes the 2 so quick and it shifts as though it can read my mind. Sport+

You might possibly find yourself rethinking this down the road a few years, after your left knee starts failing. Happened to me.

Sorry about your knee, but the outcome may not be universal....

I think this is the transmission that my previous car had -- 2014 335i -- that's the same trans right? ZF 8-speed?

That's one thing about the car I didn't like at all -- and made me start to shop around for a new car. Yeah, when you floor it the shifts are lightning quick and the car goes like a bat out of hell. But that's not how I drive normally. In everyday traffic, I disliked the transmission. Passengers would even notice the lack of performance FEEL. Common downshifts under light to moderate acceleration (to merge or just to do an easy pass) were slow and labored. I know people will say "use sport mode" and, yes, this did help a little!

I GREATLY prefer the old BMW 6-speed Automatic to this new 8-speed. 8 speeds is too many, the car is always hunting / shifting. With the 6-speed automatic, it seemed to always be in the right gear. The car is so torquey, there's no need to get out of 4th gear around town. This new 8-speed was always hunting. And just so we're clear ... the 8-speed was developed for FUEL ECONOMY per gov't regulations and for curb appeal. All the car companies are under pressure to increase fuel econ to certain levels. President Trump is trying to modify and possibly repeal some of the regulations. (I'm not being political, I'm just stating a fact)

I'm not dissing the automatic -- to each his own!!! I just disliked it. If the 6-speed A/T was available I would have chosen that. But, obviously it's not, so the 6-speed manual was a great fit for me. I really like it, especially in sport mode! Car is so much more responsive than my old 335i. Great times!

I had an 09 135i. My 235i tranny feels so much better. Maybe because of the tunes I have. Both were tuned though

2 has better crash ratings than the 3. The 4, while not tested by the IIHS, is based on the 3. I was told by BMW to expect the same crash results.
Just something to think about.

Are they in the same size classification, or is it an apples and oranges thing?

Edit: Both classified as Mid-Size Luxury, FWIW.

Classification for impact purposes is within 500lbs of the comparison car, so need to check the weights. As I recall 2 and 3/4 are fairly close, but I don't have the numbers handy now.
