Loose carbon Spoiler

All, my CF spoiler seems to be slightly loose on the driver's side. Does anyone have experience in fixing something similar? I'm hoping it doesn't need to be taken off and completely redone...

It needs to be taken off and completely redone.

Sounds like the tape was dirty / greasy when the spoiler was applied originally.

Thanks man. Do you know if this qualifies as warranty work? I think it was port installed or at the dealer (not factory). I think I would rather have my detailer take a stab at it.

If you decide to do it yourself, it is not much work:

1) Heat gun/fishing line the old one off
2) Clean off residue and tape on trunk and spoiler
3) Reapply 3M double sided tape on spoiler
4) Reapply on trunk

But if its dealer installed...why not have them deal with it?

I would not DIY simply because, once you do, they can get annoying to deal with about warranty. As-is someone did a crap job but importantly it was someone at BMW who did a crap job.

Worst case scenario you "fix" and somehow screw it up then you're on your own.

Thanks for the input fellas. I brought it in today just to show them. They said they are going to contact corporate but they're either going to take it all apart like others mentioned or have a third party leave it on and apply some adhesive to the weaker area. I don't like option b at all!!

Having a similar issue with mine and the dealer I purchased from is taking care of it. They asked if I wanted a new one with fresh tape or an option to remove and reinstall the current one with a body glue. I might just do the glue and hope it lasts longer than two years..

That's pretty much the response I got. Funny, we basically have the car too (50 units of the m performance editions) lol ... more like the defective spoiler edition.

Just imagine if/when a spoiler comes loose at speed....pointed shape, about the height of the windshield of the car following you....no thanks! All my spoliers have been attached with a bead of urethane and taped down to secure for 24 hours. I believe BMW makes such a branded urethane product. But, you better get the location right...it becomes VERY secure!
