n55 open hole

help please...2015 m235i coupe. does anyone have this hole on top of their engine. local bmw service tech told me its normal??? anybody else got this condition??? it looks to me like it should have a hose on it because it has a barb type setup. the only thing i found for a diagram on google was a drawing showing maybe a hose to a vacuum pump??? i dont like an open hole that looks like it goes down into the head area at all. any help would be great. i emailed bmw customer service and asked for a tech, r&d or engineer to correspond with, but they said no can do and keep pushing me to go back to a local dealership. since i live an hour plus away from one, i just wanted an email answer, but no help from them...go fig.

Hahahah...cornholio...my wife's 235 has a smaller hole than your wife's 335...I could go on all day...anywho, capping it unnecessary, does it need to vent? Just don't like it open, looks like crud is starting to collect down in there.....

Actually, our wives holes are the same. Ask me how I know. Lol.

*N55* <-- spoiler alert

I don't think that hole leads to anything. I'd just leave it.

i found this pic of n55 engine from a pdf for the n55 engine. and it shows to have a vacuum pump with a barb on it similar to the one on top of the engine. this is also what i had mentioned in my first post that i had found a diagram online showing a hose from this vacuum pump to the top of the motor. questions are, is this pic an older version of the n55? does the n55 not or no longer require this hose for some reason? is the vacuum pump just drawing in hot open air through the barb? i am just kind of confused on all this since i started researching. any thoughts?

I think I may have to get by a bmw dealership (again) and talk to a tech (again), since bmwusa is no help. If this is supposed to be hooked to the vacuum pump, whats being drawn out. If nothing, guess capping off would not be a problem. If tech can't figure out, maybe I can send pics to bmwuk for an answer.

The Hole is for a Vaccum supply to the Vaccum pump on the older versions of the N55 and also on the N54 engines. Since these Valve covers bolt right up to our engines, it is easir for BMW to Make and put that valve cover on that engine.

The open Port on the valve cover is normal and nothing to worry about.
