Fabspeed Sport Cat Downpipe (Dent?)

Hi all,
Just received the Fabspeed Cat Downpipe.
I found there is a dent on the downpipe.
Please see the photo.

Is this normal?
I will also sent a email to Fabspeed for confirmation.
Thanks.

Kind of hard to see from the pictures, but if there is a dent, contact them for a replacement. There shouldn't be any dents.

Please see the latest photo I just updated.

I got the reply from Fabspeed.

Following is the reply from Fabspeed.

That dent is actually supposed to be there ! It is there because there is a support brace that goes across there and since the cat is pushed up closer to the turbo and I believe is slightly wider than the factory cat, we created a small dent to clear the support brace!

So, is that Okay?

Sounds good. Just so long as you cleared it with them.

Every after market Catless DP I've seen has a dent. Yours is perfectly fine.

I have a Shiftek sitting at my house that has the same dent...Fabspeed isn't lying - there's a brace in the way so it's for clearance.

I believe the new VRSF has gotten around the dent somehow

No dent in mine.

That is one ugly dent, if done on purpose this dent would have to be a design change. I went through several before I got one that fit correctly and none of them had a dent like that.

I am pretty sure Fabspeed will do the right thing if that dent is not supposed to be there so don't panic until confirmed, they need to see that photo. I have an early generation and as mentioned this could be a design tweak for fitment.

Was there any damage to the packaging it shipped in? They pack these pipes pretty good with that foam molding around it. Yours had the foam molding?

I have the Fabspeed sport cat DP and have the same dent. I also contacted them and they said it was supposed to be there. While instilling it there was a bracket very close that the dent helped avoid. 4 months in and still no problems or CEL.

The sport cat is supposed to have that dent to clear a coolant pipe or bracket coming off the engine block.

Mine didn't come with the dent at first and when installed didn't fit too well. It bolted up, but was way too snug and hitting the pipe/bracket. Spoke to Fabspeed and sent it back to get the dent put in. Was able to reinstall it with ease and without cursing. Good product nonetheless.

Hey everyone, Mike in Marketing here.

The dent is part of the downpipe design. We experimented with several different designs, testing different locations for the HJS catalyst as well as its size. Our current downpipe has great success with preventing any CELs. It is necessary to have the crease in the downpipe for clearance of a support brace. Investing in a more attractive cast piece is something we are looking at moving forward, we will weigh that against keeping costs lower for the community. This does not sacrifice performance at all.

If you ever have any questions, doubts, concerns, or want to chat with us about anything, our team is here!

If it's necessary that the crease is there for clearance reasons how come some have it and others don't? I didn't have any issues with installing mine (no crease) and I don't feel it rubbing on anything I'm just curious

All our Sport Cat Downpipes now leave fabrication with the crease. Some have had issues with clearance, some have not. We are eliminating any potential chance for further issues.
