Just understand that with a catless dp on this exhaust it is very aggressive. Cold starts are too loud imo, so much so I'm thinking of go to a high flow cat to calm it down.

Here is mine catless ER DP.

I wish I went with AWE. Best sounding system IMO especially when paired with catless DP. Nice balance between high and low pitch growl.

Well what one person calls drone I would say its resonance. To me drone would be at cruising speed hearing an audible volume inside the cabin. To that no I don't have any drone, I can sit at 30mph not a sound out of it, or sit at 65 and it's as quiet as stock.

Now where the noise comes in as is during acceleration under load or at partial throttle. This should not be mistaken for the glorious sound it makes at 3/4 to wide open throttle, but just normal driving around it is pretty bad. It bleeds into the cabin, almost like the exhaust is being forced over by the torque and rubbing against the heat shield. Now I've looked several times and there is a lot of clearance around the exhaust, however I still wonder if it isn't moving over to contact the under body. I just can't believe they released an exhaust that has this issue under normal driving.

So I'll take a look again and make more adjustments, may end up loosing all clamps and kind of start the install over again. If that doesn't fix it, then the other options would be to install a hi-flo cat instead of the catless, or live with it.

I still can't see why they don't offer their switch path with any of the BMW's, but that's just my thought.

Good grief. You guys are killing me. Some people say that this exhaust is awesome and based on the YouTube videos I thought so too. However, posts like these make me think twice. :/

While I won't tell you to buy one over another, my thought for buying this was it was saving myself $1000+ on exhaust from another brand. I had looked at several valved exhaust but their prices made me think twice. Also I didn't want a muffler change, I wanted full cat back. Sad to say that the black tips sold me on the AWE .

I'm going to try a few more things to see if I can't improve the DD aspect of my car. I still think the exhaust isn't positioned 100% in the car, and that maybe causing a lot of my problem.

Well, my other choices are the fabspeed unit at 2k or chance a muffler delete. I'm gonna set this mod aside for now. I just got an intake and oddly enough that has me satisfied enough with the sound. I guess it helps that I actually like ASD as well. :/

I almost went Fabspeed, seems like a solid product so no harm going that route if you pick up the valved version. Muffler Delete would be just as loud and i'm sure you'll get drone with those too.

If you are at all worried about AWE's exhaust being too aggressive a delete is going to be way worse.

I don't mind aggressive. if I went with the fabspeed exhaust I'd have the valve open all of the time unless my wife is with me. What I don't want annoying drone or resonance. Perhaps that's just the price you have to pay though. Oh well. As long as it's not while I'm cruising I'll be okay.

The AWE exhaust does sound amazing. I have it paired with the HJS catted DP and couldn't be happier. with windows up, you can barely hear when cruising in confort with the sound proofing of the car (plus asd deactivated). Seems there is a little drone/resonator sound at about 2800 to 3100 rpms, but I'm rarely cruising at those rpms and don't even notice it anymore

Someone's excited, lol. Glad you like it though. I was going to go awe as well, but I got a killer deal on another brand.

Damn right I am! It's funny, the exhaust is very predictable....meaning that whenever you let the RPM's hang at 4500-5000 and back it down it pops like crazy .... love it, great for scaring people walking LOL

Is there a solution for this 2600-3000 rpm drone? It's kinda starting to get on my nerves...

Nope, no solution at all. In fact, it gets worse when it gets colder or there is more moisture in the air. I got rid of mine...went Fabspeed Sport Cat with M-Performance Exhaust and have never looked back.

Normal DD for me would shift at exactly those RPMs for me, every time. While it didn't hang there long, it was still really bad. It got to a point where I simply couldn't deal with it any longer and returned the exhaust.

My experience was quite slight and nothing that stopped me from enjoying my vehicle daily for a 45min commute....I believe it to be a non issue
