Storage Compartment Package

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Anyone have this on their 2 series? Just trying to determine exactly what it adds.

My understanding is:
- tie downs in the cargo area
- something on the seat backs? Is it ugly?
- possibly a lid by the cup holders?

Thanks.

I believe it also adds the driver's side glovebox, assuming you don't get the assistance package as well (the buttons go where the glovebox would be).

This is the one option I regret not getting. I was under the mistake impression that the cargo net came standard in Canada like the US.

I have this. The tie-down/net for the trunk is one of the best things I've had in a trunk ever. It is really handy! For Christmas we put food in there, and I was able to secure it in place easily with the net/keep things from spilling. It sounds so small but really is handy!

The nets on the back of the seats are very tight and I can't see them fitting much, but magazines/maps/etc no problem.

I do not have a lid with the cupholders. I don't think that exists.

I ordered the 493 Storage Compartment Package which was a $200 option. There is nothing that details what the option is. We would have to compare one with and without this option. Here are some pics of the trunk and seat backs. I have a couple of nets, tie down and there are a couple of hooks (I presume for bags) in the trunk and nets on the seat backs.

I've got all those bits as well except for the storage compartment next to the steering column. I have the options for lane departure etc in that location.

I'm not aware of any official part. I think the issue is that without the storage package there's not even mounting points in the trunk to attach a net to.

This is a net (2nd pic) I bought for our 2016 X5. I think this will work in the 2 series as well. In my son's M235 he has 4 eyelets that you can hook onto. I have a pic of one of them but there is one on every corner. Check to see if you have them.

US 228i with Premium Pkg has this standard

I have a 228i with Premium Package and have these as standard. Netting behind front seats, driver side storage box and cargo net in trunk.

Not sure if you have to order the premium package or not.

Sounds like the Canadian cars have to order the Storage Compartment Package separately. Same thing happened to me on the X5 so I made sure to order it this time on this M235. BTW, you lose the driver storage compartment with the driver assist package.

My car has everything but the small driver's side box - as noted just above, you lose that if you get Driver Assistance Plus, as the buttons take the place of the pullout door.

Thanks for the suggestion. You're correct that even without the storage package you still get four attachment points in the trunk, though they're rather spread out. Not sure if any of the BMW OEM nets like the X5 model would fit. In the past I've simply used bungee cords to hold down stuff if needed, but obviously the OEM nets looks much cleaner.

See item #4 in the diagram below and at the link to the 2 series part database for a trunk/cargo net. If you click this link {https://bimmercat.com/bmw/en/parts/i...8530/appliance }...it shows all the other 1/2/3/4 series BMW models that use the same net (part nbr):

We got all these three options as standard on UK M235i models. The cargo net is disproportionately useful. I had one as a retro-fit accessory on my previous 3 Series and would have ordered it on the 2 if it hadn't been included as standard.

The driver's-side small compartment is similarly useful e.g. for keys, wallet etc. that you may have in your hand when you sit down but don't want to just put down loose in the centre tray.

The seat backs are also useful for things like hi-vis jackets (mandatory in mainland Europe and useful if you break down), maps etc. as you can fairly easily reach behind the seat opposite.

One item I did retro-fit was the passenger footwell storage net. This is similarly so useful you wonder why it's not installed as standard. It's an oblong net which is fastened to the transmission tunnel side of the passenger footwell. It's reachable from the driver's seat and great for maps, directions and any smaller items.

That part sounds quite useful.

Is this it here: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=03_0656? If not, would you happen to have a part number for the unit you bought?

That's the one. It's used on just about all BMW models.

I finally dug out the original invoice and the part number looks the same as above:

B51.47.0.429.466 - Parcel Net - GBP £19.92

The 2016 price excluded local taxes. It came with four hard plastic hooks with a screw base. I just had to use a bradawl to pierce the carpet and then the hooks could be screwed into the carpet, to hold each corner of the net. I could have moved the one I fitted to the previous 3 Series but that would have left visible holes, so I just opted to get a new one for the 2 - for a BMW accessory, it seemed good value.

The net has a separate small section that is designed to hold a BMW hi-vis vest (to be worn outside the car if you break down), but it's also a neat size to hold a thermos flask or similar-sized object.

Tried to order this part but it's no longer available according to several BMW parts vendors, including dealers' online.
