Is the M2 a "soundy" car?
Don't know if you can actually say "soundy" in English but what I mean is this..
Came from a 335 e92 that I had and loved for 10 years. Now, I just bought i slightly used M2 that had 8500 km on it and starting to get used to all the new sounds it makes. There are like three things I notice that make me react: - there seems to be no sound dampening what so ever in the rear wheel wells which make me notice how many pebbles and rocks get thrown around in there.. - the snaps/crackle from the gear box when it puts into park or you change from reverse to forward and back. - sometimes it sounds like something is rolling around in some compartment somewhere from the back but I have nothing at all in any compartment that could do that so I don't know what that could be.. Do any of you guys also notice these things?? |

Noisy is the word you're looking for. Yes the M2 can be a noisy car but I listen to music always so I don't notice it as much.

Check under your trunk liner to make sure the jack or something else isn't sliding around. |

When do you notice this? Slow speeds? When turning? Any incline, like a driveway? |

No rolling around or sliding around sounds. pebbles/rocks in the brake shields have been known to be very noisy. |

You probably have ASD active which makes the car super noisy in sport or sport+. Some of us have either coded it out or installed bypass harnesses.
Check the ASD threads. |

It's not the ASD I'm talking about, I'm positive about that.
The sound of something rolling around comes mostly at relatively low speeds, quite randomly, and randomly goes away. Sounds like a rock or marble rolling around underneath the backseat. Any chance of a small rock making its way up somewhere and then falling out..?? |

You didn't mention your model year, but if it's a 2016/2017 and the noise sounds like 'rocks in a soda can', check the following:
I'm not sure if the 2018 LCI has the improved dust shields. https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...2&postcount=18 |

Well, I would say that this could be it, many of the people writing in that thread describe similar experiences.
Unless the soda can crush noise is the load screeching sound from like a pebble grinding against the brake? Had it on my e92 and stopping and reversing always helped. Mine is more like a pebble getting thrown around somewhere in the lower back of the car.. I will definitely have a closer look at this later. |

I must admit the lack of sound deadening from the rear wells was one of the first things I noticed. Coming from a C63 on the same gravel driveway the noise difference is huge. I find myself pulling this face every time I leave the house...

But if it saved weight, I am OK with it. The car is chubby enough! |

Haha, the sound of all the pebbles hitting the rear well made me feel sort of naked at first
Not to mention the ear-deafening rumble from driving on bad quality asphalt.. ..or the BMW Connected app that seems to have a life of it's own (on android).. |

On top of that, it occasionally decides to be helpful and automatically sets a destination on the nav system (which is silly when the destination is a place I regularly go to). |
