Honestly I think no effect. Sure you'll have some owners trade up. But I also see people coming in off the street wanting a M2 only to be told that they will have to pay MSRP or more to get it. I think quite a few of those people might settle for a M235i.
Just my guess though. |

So i'm new here. I don't own either car and have been shopping over the last few weeks. The 2-Series is on my list.
-None of my local dealers have 6spds, meaning i'd have to order -While the M2 is MSRP with the manual is $54.5k (metallic paint and executive) I was going to say the M235i is less attractive, but taking discounts into consideration, there's still a good $6-7k gap if not more. There's some cachet to the M badge, and a limited number of M2s as well. For me, the M2 is looking very attractive. Next year will be interesting assuming the M2 stays N55/S55 based and the M240i is B58 based. |

At the time (and still now, really) I was a very novice track driver. Also, I did not have a LSD at the time (I do now), so the car was pretty sketchy in the rear at the limit of grip. Turn 2 and 6-8 complex was pretty damn scary. I think I usually hit turn 9 apex at around 90. I think, on a really good run, I was between 135-140 on the front straight. My times were around 1:40, which is decent for a novice driver in a street car on that course. I haven't been back in a long while. Frankly, that track scares the crap out of me. It's too fast unless you're in a caged car. Yeah, there is a lot of runoff room, but you're hitting the desert at 110+ most of the time. I'd rather do Streets of Willow or Buttonwillow.

Hard to believe you hit close to 140mph on the front straight and apex turn 9 at 90mph but only manage a 1:40. The desert tracks are not safe at all in my opinion. Big Willow and Streets used to be my favorite tracks, but now Autoclub is my go to track. Higher speeds, but maintained way better with less chance of rollover if you go off....just watch out for the walls. |

Not at all. I don't find the M2 even close to enough of an upgrade on an M235i.. Not to mention that once comparably equipped to an M235i and the dealer markup on the M2, there are better performance vehicles in that price range by quite a bit.

I have not actually. Every time I've had it scheduled something comes up.
On big willow you should be low 1:30s based on your turn 9 speed and mph on the front straight. Just need to learn the rest of the track. For most people turn 8/9 is the challenge so you're already there. The other place people have a hard time with is the Omega. Lots of people take the wrong line there. Good video on YouTube from a Porsche driver that explains the same line I take. I used to do 1:33.xx in my FBO EvoX there. I would hit 128/9 mph on the front straight and low 90s mph at the apex of turn 9. Took my Audi TT and RX8 there back in the day too. Never got times for them though. I don't track as much as I used to. Once I get the 235 situated I will probably only do about 2 a year. I used to track quite a bit for the last 10 years or so. Sorry to side track the post. |
