Okay, i guess this car was designed in the weekend. Why? the wider fenders are fixed on top of the existing panels, probably with double sided tape

BMW has still got it. This thing is just badass on all levels.

Makes me feel great knowing they still have their roots.

Edit: reading through all the posts so far and I have seen every post as a positive. I can't see how anyone can say this car is ugly or a bad thing.

If the M2 looks anything like this then I'm definitely getting one.
Looks so much better than the bloated M4. I haven't been this excited about a BMW since the E46 M3.
+1

M2 looks much better than the M4 IMO (if it ends up looking like this).

I hope BMW really concentrates on the M2 like how they have consistently done for the M3 over the years. If so, man oh man the M2 would be one hell of a car!

DCT for sure. The M235i doesn't have it for this reason. They're saving it for the M2 in order to outperform the M235i as much as possible. The performance numbers between the two cars need to be more than slightly different

Why does everyone think this means an m2?

It's an m235i chassis, shell, engine, gearbox and everything else with some performance parts and wide arches. Yes it looks amazing but i don't think it implies an m2 or is based on an m2 or anything else.

333bhp is an m235i with sports exhaust and remap. If this is the m2 I will stick with my m235i with LSD thanks.

The wheelarches look a bit glued on. Honestly, personally, the previous M2 renderings look much better to me. I guess they needed a quick solution for the wider track, same wide track for an eventual M2, if it's coming...
The M235i racing will provide plenty of feedback from the racing teams. Wich can be helpfull with chassisdevelopment for an eventual M2.
Furthermore i agree with some of the members here, BMW left plenty of room/gap between M235i and M2.
We've seen the lightweight materials, used in M3/M4, driveshaft, trunklit/hood, roof,etc...that can be used in the topmodel
M interior, exterior bits, front and rear fenders,...
DKG-transmission (M-DCT), exhaust,... and offcourse enginechoice.
Probably I4, M2 i4, M3/M4 i6, M5/M6 V8. It has always been tradition to give 2 cylinders more to the bigger model... Just a tought...

I'm not sure this directly means an M2. It is, however, an evolution beyond what the M235i has been projected to be. It looks to be a beautiful race care and gives us a little insight to what BMW may roll out as the M2. Many references have been made that give assurances that an M2 will be built in the not too distant future. Significant weight reduction combined with the full M treatment should produce a car that will be 2nd to none in its class. The big unknown is the engine that will power the M2. If an inline 6 is the right choice for the M235i Racing, then I believe an inline 6 is worthy of powering the M2. Nothing would make happier than to see that come to be the case.

I don't think it's a bad thing at all especially if we the consumers benefit from it, BUT I don't find it attractive. It actually looks awkward to me. It looked better (to me) with the camo on sliding around in the cold pretending to be going fast

Wonder why BMW when with Performance Friction brakes when they've had a LONG relationship with AP??

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

What's the confusion? It's a race car, if the normal consumer wants to go racing then they can buy it.
