I was thinking more about saving some weight by removing the ASD.
Moreover I don't want the dealer to do any unwanted software updates, but I also don't want to be welcomed by an error message on the Idrive or lose the option to have some features coded. |

Not sure if it's the harness or the window tint installation that I had done today, or a random audio system failure, but ... Immediately after the tint installation this afternoon, the first thing I noticed was a warning saying "Park Distance Control Not Functional" or something similar to that. Then the audio system made an incredibly loud, intermittent crackling / popping / shrieking noise. Even after turning the audio system off and ignition off. It sounded like full-volume static with intermittent moments of silence. It was so loud I had to wear ear plugs. Glad I had them in the glove box. I drove straight back to the tint installing shop, and they swore the radio was on during the entire installation procedure (thanks) with no problems. At first, I could hear a little music and/or radio under the noise, but soon only the static / crackle could be heard. Then after a few more minutes, just an occasional pop / ticking noise, then nothing after 20 minutes. I have scheduled an appointment with my local BMW dealer, but that won't happen until Monday, April 17th. Will post again after I discover the root cause. Update: I tried the audio system again, just 2 hours after the problem occurred, and it's gone now. Definitely not the TechnicPnP harness. May have been a temporary short-circuit caused by water from the rear window tint installation.

The OEM amp can be removed. The ASD unit cannot.

I installed it
I installed it in my 2014x1 no hissing or any noise just clear pure bass from my MRV-M500 alpine amp and my alpine SWS 12D$ sub. Maybe its not properly grounded

While I did find the need to shut off the fake sound in my 235i, so far I'm grooving on the sounds of my M2. For now I won't pursue shutting the ASD off.

I installed the harness but unfortunately the hiss is still there...
Shall I ask BMW for a new amplifier or what can be the issue? EDIT: After some searches on the web, I found a thread where someone measured the signal from the HU that arrives at the amplifier. It seems that the analog signal from the HU already has the hiss and in turn it is not coming from the amp. http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/hifi-...1#post44428868 Nevertheless with the harness the sound is much clearer, so i am absolutely happy with that. Now I am wondering how to decrease the noise level. Maybe soldering some resistors in between the harness (the wires are nicely labeled)? If the amp is fine, the voltage drop would decrease the overall signal level, including audio and noise. I never had the HU turned up all the way, so a voltage drop of maybe 20-30% wouldn't matter... Any ideas, if this could work? Last edited by bmw_fascinated; 05-07-2017 at 02:27 PM.. |

As you'll read in the thread above, my theory is that it's more acute in the 2 Series because the sound system is totally analog and not fiber optic-based like it is in higher-line models.

Update:
My 2017 no longer had a cover over the amp. Also, he has nicely perfected the harness, straight plug and play. However be sure to flip and snap both connectors to secure them. Boy, that amp is sure ready for a direct plug in replacement. All the cables right there on one plug and plenty of space for something larger. |

I just installed it and didnt have to swap the locking connectors. Dont know why instruction says it just plugged in fine. Though i still here kinda loud hissing noise when no sound when i hear it close to the speakers. I was hoping the harness take care of that. To be honest i dont see much difference between harbess abd coding out.

I attempted install tonight, not realizing that installation is simpler now...straight plug and play. Will finish it up tomorrow.
I did notice that my 2017 m240 does not have a plastic liner support over the ASD module and the amp. Is this now "standard", or am I missing something? |

I just purchased and installed the harness on my 2015 M235i. Did anyone else have to snip off two tabs on the plug to get it to fit into the ASD amp or did I get an old version of the harness?

I just installed it on my M240i. It was exactly as the OP described for his 235 except I had no plastic frame over the units.
A friend had offered to code it out but I thought this might be a better way to go in case the dealer ever re-flashes me or in case I end up upgrading the amp. Thank you Zooks! |

You shouldn't have had to snip off any tabs. On my 2016 M235i the connectors fit in perfectly. I had the original version of the harness so I had to do the connector swap.

Now I need to check if my connectors are swapped. I had to snip off the tabs because the lower ones on the left and right side of the plug were too large to allow the plug to slide into the amp.

I should have mentioned that, at least on my M240i, there was no need to switch out the locking tabs, it was plug and play as it came.
Now that I have driven for a bit I must say this is like night and day. With the manual, I run about 3000 RPMs in 6th on the highway, and it is SO much quieter now. The audio sounds better too, but that is probably because it isn't outputting fake engine noise. I did not try coding it out so cannot comment on if that is the exact same effect. ASD delete is highly recommended, especially if you have MT. |

Just installed the ASD. Man, the car is so much quieter it's pretty crazy. My install didn't go as smoothly as I hoped though. After reading this thread, I was under the impression that it would just be a direct plug and play. However, no matter what I did I could not get the ASD harness to connect to the stock plug so I had to do the swap as indicated in this tutorial. That wasted a good 10-15 min trying to figure out why it wasn't working. Then, trying to switch over the plugs was another pain in the *** as those tabs just refused to loosen. And lastly, my car actually had the tray as well as indicated in this guide, which I of course forgot to put back after I completely finished putting everything back together.
At least I'm a pro at doing this now... LOL
