There's definitely some logic to that - problem is that it's tough to find a low mileage Z4MC without getting into the 30+ k range.

Never liked the look of the E36 - but good condition E46 M3s are also still commanding 30k.

So do you want a new car with a warranty that you can lease for less a month than a more "classic" BMW with significant mileage on it, but with more tried and true technology ?

Tough decision. I always like the newer stuff, so I'm sure the M235 will be in my future.

This. I love my 135is but I'd have deleted the moonroof or not ordered it given the option. The M235i definitely feels like the new 135is - most of BMWs "M-sport" equipment and very few other options.

I just picked up my 135is so I don't think the M235i is in the future for me, I wanted a BMW that didn't have EPS. If BMW comes out with an amazing M2 in a few years perhaps I'll change my mind but I'm not holding my breath.

All that said, I'm definitely looking forward to driving the M235i just to sell how it compares.

Damn I was really looking forward to this car but prices are getting rediculous. I don't see this car being $10,000 higher then the new Mustang GT. If ford gets the driving dynamics right the 235 won't even be on my radar anymore. Granted I haven't driven this or the 2015 mustang I don't see the 235 coming anywhere near the GT in performance department. The current GT was a way better performance car then the 135 but was held back by the boat like feeling handling that the solid rear axle gave you. With ford finally going to irs (minus old terminators) and BMW switching to their terrible electronic steering I don't see the 235 beating it in the driving feel as it did before. The new electronic steering in the f30/32 is terrible and I pray this doesn't make it's way to the 235. At the same time I don't see them revising it just for this car. Also I am tired of BMW putting the M badge on everything when it's not an M car. I will of course vote with my wallet and drive both when they are released and decide for myself. It's just sad that BMW keeps pulling farther away from their moto of the ultimate driving machine. This moto should be given to porsche.

I know why, because people are already complaining about the price tag of $44k. with HUD it will go up to $48k silently. you don't want that to happen do you?

As others have posted, 4k for the 228i Premium package is ridiculous. I'm a couple of years away from even thinking about doing anything, but right now I'd consider the 228i with the Sportline and HK and call it a day.....

I think a lot of people on here would be happier about the price if BMW were charging ~$1500 or whatever for the ZF auto transmission. I know I would.

If the price had been $42,500 for the manual and the $44K for the auto, it would have been easier to swallow in my opinion.

There has been a subtle shift, and now a manual transmission is a "no cost" option, which means we are all subsidizing the autos for the masses.

BMW could also do what they have done in the past, and make more options, such as a HUD, an ala carte option and people could choose whether or not they want to buy it...

Cant wait to drive this car!!

I really wish BMW would give the option of red leatherette though.. I want a white 228i with red leather/ette, but I dont really want to pay for the real leather.. Rather just have the leatherette...

Either way, super excited!!

Yes, they run around 30k thats 15k left for another car...i really dont care for all the techy gadgets anymore and its less problem down the road without it. Plus the older "real" M cars are all Inline 6 without the HPFP problems....dont get me wrong i still love this car, just not worth it as of now

Also someone mention the CLA AMG which could be a better deal.its alittle more money but there're 4 doors and awd....not everyone here likes that car but its going to steal alot of sales from bmw

Anyone who has experience with a BMW xDrive sports car...if you can help me out here it will be greatly appreciated.
I don't know what it will be like for a M235i but I have recently driven a 435i xDrive in an autocross setting and it was phenomenal. I was expecting it to be too high and not grounded enough but it was impressive especially when accelerating out of sharp turn. If you accelerate at the apex it literally pulls you out of the turn with a slingshot like feel and it's stable.

but I'd say "real" M cars had problems of their own. take for example E46M3; it has VANOS issues, and cracking subframe issues. and that's no small issue.

Well, that's $15k for another car AND a self-generated "warranty". You really have to schedule in some repair and maintenance $$ to make it a semi-real comparison, especially considering how beat on most cars would be that you'd be looking at.

As far as the CLA - sit in the rear seat; if you're over 5' 7", you won't really care about those rear doors much, except for having an easier way to throw your gym bag in the car. And don't forget the lack of aftermarket stuff on Benzes as a whole. It can be very frustrating.

Later yr fixed those issues i believe...but my point is for $44k without a LSD, this car easily will run near $50k, there are alot of cross shopping/other options available....after all its only a rebrand 235is
If you think is a good deal by all means go for it...i love this car but will hold off as of now

I guess the bmw "M" badge is worth $5000 lol

I have driven 650i, 650i Xdrive, and M6 on Track (Monticello, NY) for a few hours.

You can research how the Xdrive system works so I won't go into tech specs on that.

1st, Xdrive system is very capable on track. very fun, very fast, solid, stable, and feels very neutral all throughout the track. I was simply surprised at how any of the 6 series can be so capable on the track because I thought they were supposed to be touring cars.

Once I hit the first corner in the RWD 6 series, I started to appreciate the lightness and nimbleness of the RWD car. there was easily noticeable lightness to it even from the acceleration. RWD is simply a better car on the track. RWD was more fun but I'm not saying xdrive isn't fun at all. If I were to rate the performance aspect of each car on 1-10 scale, I would put the Xdrive at 7, RWD at 8.5, and M6 at 10.

M6 on track is in another league. Monster of a car. it has so much torque that I was turning the car with the throttle with ease. very stable, rock solid, super HP, super TQ, and super grip.

So back to your question, is xdrive worth it on M235? IMO, no, xdrive doesn't belong on the 2 series. we have 3 series for that. 2 series is supposed to be a fun car. if you get a lot of snow, put on some blizzaks and you will be more than fine with RWD. How I know? I used to drive my S2000 in the winter on blizzaks for 2 years without a problem.

no comment on 0-60 times or 40-60 times...

If you think a 435X drive is a good auto X car you need to go back and drive a good auto x car. I have driven the 435 X drive and the car rolls and understeers like a pig. It is one of the worst cars I have driven for auto X.

it must be the market demand. BMW probably sees auto selling a lot more so either BMW eats the cost or the MT buyers do. BMW chose MT buyers.

Easier to make about 7% of your buyers mad than 93%. Automatic buyers have been complaining for years that the auto is an additional charge, while Lexus, Infiniti, MB and Audi don't charge for it. So BMW changed it. Not surprising. Plus manuals hurt fleet efficiency averages.

Great pricing!

I see that the 228i Msport also gets the spoiler.

How much does the top speed increase by with the increased limiter?

I'd guess it's the normal switch from H rated tires to W/Z speed rating, so 130 mph to 155 mph.
