Coming from a 6sp manual e90 and doing a PCD of a 6sp Manual M235 tomorrow (YEA!!). A friend just got a 2014 335i auto and the gearbox is really nice also. Can't go wrong with either, it really is preference and how good your left knee is. I just really like the feeling of hitting that perfect heal-toe downshift into a corner.

6MT Alpine White...
3 Days and 168 miles just waiting for break in at 1200 before I push this rocket. Even under 3500 rpm this car flies.... such a huge upgrade versus my 2002 IS300 5 spd

It's notchy, did CDV delete and it's a little better but 1-2 shift still drives me nuts,,,,, With A/C on I have to shift close to 4k rpm or it jerky.... Common E series problem... I've driven many other cars with manuals and they are a lot "easier" to product smooth shifts.... |

I have like no stuff left in my left knee and shifting is pain free. So unless you have like no knee, then it's not really an excuse lol. You don't really bend your knee much and there's no real stress or pressure placed on it when driving. I could see where stop and go could be tiring to a bad knee but hardly debilitating.

I went with the auto...well because MD traffic sucks and the auto puts up better times. I still have my manual 128i though so I can still go out and have some fun. M235i will be road trip and weekend fun car

Having said that, this is the best manual I have driven (so far). Smooth as butter, and I don't see my passengers jerking to my shifts anymore, lol. As to why I went MT, I couldn't bear the idea of going auto, though I've heard it is amazing in this machine. Another reason was because this M235i was sitting right there in front of me at the dealership, and I couldn't say no to her.

I drove both an auto and a manual 228i. The auto to me was a bit dull...It's a little snooty, but I think it's cool to have the manual in the mass hordes of autos out there. |

The best manual transmission car I've ever driven (yes, it even ranks IMO above the M235i) is the 6spd that came with the Mazda RX-8.

Got back home over the weekend from the PCD and have been doing more "city" driving to/from work this week so far. I have to say the clutch is lighter than that on the E90 and seems to have more throw on the back end (time to order a clutch stop). Still getting used to the feel and creating the "memory" of the bite point. The gearbox shifts smoother than the E90 and feels tighter (not sure how to describe that one, more like it wants to go into the next gear without much effort and gets there with a more positive feel). The one thing that throws me a little is the throttle response difference between sport and comfort. Throws my timing off a little for the first shift when I change modes especially moving from a stop. All that considered I really like it and wouldn't get the car any other way...

I got an auto, because thats what they had in stock, and also its a daily driver that includes rush hour. It shifts really quick, and I like it better than the dsg in my wife's 2010 Z4.
that being said, I would have just as easily gotten the manual if thats what is was. |
