Not to advertise Dinan, but i think the Dinan midpipe would perform better in terms of sound than the also valid "resonator cut/delete" option.
The Dinan midpipe mantains it's diameter all along, even in the bends, which the stock pipe doesn't. You would not regret the Dinan midpipe mod and as i said before, the quality it's superb. |

No, the box won't fit in the car.

Update of the Dinan midpipe: last weekend i had the opportunity to do a lot of spirited driving and each day the car sounds better. I guess it has to be with the breaking of it. Now the car sounds like Sport in Comfort mode but it's not obnoxious because of the valve in the stock muffler.
I'm now always driving with my windows down to hear the exhaust sound... Very pleased. |

Looking forward to hearing it.
I have an install date of next Tuesday. I'd prefer to do it myself, but I don't want to lay on my back in my driveway. I wish I had access to a lift.

You must have the front seats forward and the seat-backs upright!

Midpipe ordered. Need to find some install options besides the dealer. Any general muffler retail chain suggestions?

I decided to go with a Dinan dealer near me for install. They're an independent, local European performance shop, with good reviews.
I'm sure I could have found an exhaust shop that would do it cheaper, but price is not my primary concern. The most important criteria for me in choosing a shop is that they do quality work, take pride in that and stand behind it.

Well I installed the midpipe. The shop I was going to go to was booked till the end of the week. I had the mod fever so i decided to do this myself in my garage.
Instant regret once I got under there. The dinan instructions don't list the tools you need so I'll lay it out for anyone wanting to do it themselves. Forward exhaust hanger bolt is a 13mm, dinan exhaust clamp nuts are 15 mm (don't recall what the stock clamp size was). For the 6 cross member plate bolts you need a T50 torx. Lastly another nice surprise was there is a brace that supports the cross member (not shown in the instructions = trip to parts store for a T55 torx bit). There are 2 T55 bolts to need to remove. Got it done finally and it sounds good. Literally just dropped the car 30 mins ago so can only say more pops and burbles, slightly more loud. Very satisfied. |

I self installed mine a couple days ago and can attest to the accuracy of POVRTM's post. The only trouble I had was getting the exhaust tips perfectly centered while maintaining the proper clearance above the cross member.
Even with the left exhaust flap closed, the sound level at startup is pretty loud. After 10-15 seconds it settles down as the RPMs drop. Driving these rural Michigan roads with the windows down reveals plenty of pops and burbles. Overall very happy with this upgrade! |
