I don't technically own a 2 series right now but if things go well with transport I should have my new M2 next week. In preparation for delivery I ordered some BMW all weather floor mats and a set of Continental extreme contact all season tires. I wanted to get some proper snow tires but options are extremely limited and expensive in stock sizes (planning to swap tires on and off the stock wheels seasonally).

Given the high cost of swapping out tires twice a year (including recalibrating the TPMS system), I wonder if it might not be more cost-efficient in the long run to get a devoted set of rims for the snows. That might also allow for a smaller rim for the snows, usually better in winter.

This is the answer for JMcLellan - removing/replacing tires, even with the best tire shop, can result in damage to the tire bead and/or wheel.

Just curious what ur thought of those dinan coil packs. I am currently replacing the valve cover and iam goin to replace plugs and coils. Those are on the top of my list. Even red.

Yeah in the long run you are probably right on the cost. Plus some folks want to only use the stock wheels in safer conditions to reduce the risk of rubbing them up.

This was my only option currently to keep costs low on spending on tires only. I need a few months to let things settle down with the wife on this car purchase....I guess the other available option was to not buy tires and only drive the car in 30 degree F or higher temps and non snowy/icy conditions until the spring warm up. But there was no way I was buying a car and letting it sit for a few weeks.

Good to know. My neighbor's kid has done some pretty crazy stuff with wheels and tires and he has a nearby shop he trusts with his tire/wheel needs. I will ask what that place is to see if he feels going there would reduce the risks of what you are saying.

Totally agree with John in VA, swapping tires on rims should be a short term contingency, not a long term plan. Every mount/dismount is wear on the tire beads, plus you have to re-balance them every change.

Either buy a set of winter rims and put the winter tires on them, or put the winter tires on the factory wheels and buy a nice set of aftermarket summers. Less road salt on the summers will keep them looking better longer. Seems silly to buy an M2 and cheap out on debatably the next most important thing. And enjoy the new car, look fwd to some pics!

Man, where was this feedback a few days ago? I should have posted here instead of talking amongst the G87 forum peeps where none of this came up. Lol. I really like the stock wheels so I could see those being my summers w/ the performance tires. We'll see how the next few months goes. I might even consider buying a 3rd vehicle to use in the winter to minimize all the road salt and snow stuff in these tough MN winters and keep the new ride clean.

ECS Tuning has some really nice Alzor wheels and they go on great sales every now and then I got a nice set for about $650 for my winter set. Plus I found some BMW TPMS units that were $35 for a set of 4 on flea bay.

I went with black sapphire metallic, black wheels, black interior. Same spec as my M240i. The hardest to keep clean but it's what I like.

I did see the bolt pattern isn't the 5x120. Those BMW bastards!!

I swapped to the Dinan set in pursuit of trying to get 0 timing correction.
In my mind I thought one of mine was weak at the time I got them.
Though I did see a negligible improvement, what I learned is my OEMs were probably just fine.
I still enjoy the red Dinans and now know I have a viable back up set of coils if I need

Another advantage of dedicated winter wheels besides size and not swapping is that you can buy cheap wheels and not worry so much about winter damage. TireRack often has cheaper wheels in 17".

I went with the blue Dinan coil packs for my E39 at 150k miles - they work great. Purchased from Turner - not my favorite vendor, but the price was right & they were in stock.

I'm officially back with a 2 series. Picked up the new M2 today at the dealer today. I'm a very happy man. I had it fitted with the height adjustable suspension from the factory and the stance looks nice. Maybe some wheel spacers upcoming. No other plans for mods aside from window tint and PPF.

I knew you'd come back. Congrats on the new M2!!!!!!! Spacers will definitely help set off the stance just right! How does it feel in comparison to the outgoing M240i?

Hit an iceberg in the road. They usually aren't solid blocks of ice but this one was. The SUV in front of me cleared it but I dragged it about 100 ft before I could pull over and dislodge it. Thankfully the person in front of me was going 20 under the speed limit. Doesn't seem to be any damage to the bumper but the undercarriage got pushed in a bit. I hope to inspect it a bit closer tonight.

It's surprising how difficult it is to find any pictures on the internet of these cars from underneath and without the plastic cladding. Does anyone have a link to a decent picture of the underside of the car without the plastic cladding (preferably a B58)? I just want to see if anything important could have been damaged before pulling it off later.

Looks like radiator, sway bar and steering rack motor. In my case the chunk was lodged between sway bar and motor. My car drives fine so it looks like I dodged a bullet with the steering rack.
Edit2: It still hasn't been nice weather to peel off the warped plastic piece. But there's a lower rad hose before the subframe. The sway bar is up above that hose...
Edit3: Haven't driven much due to sickness but was able to finally assess the damage. A new radiator (secondary system thankfully), mounts and assorted plastic bits will be needed.

It will take some time to get a feel for the car as I somewhat have to baby it for the first 1200 miles until the break in service is complete. I did test drive a used one back in November and properly ripped on it. The 2 main differences were (that I could gather from a 10 minute test drive) (1) the power delivery being much more linear than the B58 with a more smooth low end and a crazy top end and (2) the rear end feel is way different and when coming out of corners, and sliding a little bit, I felt way more in control and like I was an actual good driver.

I also switched to a 6 speed manual from the 8 speed auto in the M240i so will take a bit getting used to that part of the driving experience.

Installed rear Dinan springs, Apex Arc-8 18x9.5et58 rear on 255/35/18 with 12mm spacers and 18x8.5et38 on the front with 225/40/18 and no spacers. Front springs pending install. Running Indy 500s and they’re narrower than expected so I could probably go 235 in front and 265 rear without camber.. will go that route for my next set of tires. Even with rear springs only, the car has way less roll in the turns and just grips so much better than my stock setup. And not to mention it just looks sexy. Super satisfied!!
