That's disappointing. Are you running the latest version of the car software?

Confirmed, does work WITHOUT Tech Package. I have no phone or tech options, just iPhone connected via Bluetooth. Siri works just fine through the car's speakers when I hold down the speak button.

For people wondering why it isn't working on their car, it's because bluetooth audio isn't standard on MY 2014 F22s, but it is on MY 2015s.
I've got a 2014 M235i without Tech or Enhanced Bluetooth, so the button doesn't do anything (but strangely, it isn't blank). |

Can confirm this works for Android as well for voice activated features on the 2015 (w/tech + Enhanced BT)
Tip: -Tapping the voice button will activate the BMW voice activation -Pressing and holding the voice button will trigger the phone voice services

I just got my 2016 M235i. It has no tech package and no Enhanced Bluetooth. I have been testing out Hey, Siri and the usage of the iSpeech button. What I found is that if I plug in my phone to the USB, I can stream my iPhone music (kind of sad since many less expensive brands include Bluetooth streaming). If I turn on the nav, meaning google Maps or Apple Maps, it will talk to me over the car speakers. I can make phone calls using iSpeech or Hey Siri. Hey Siri works only if the phone is plugged in and then I don't need to press any buttons. I also have much more flexibility with hey Siri than with the button. For example, I can say hey Siri, open Facebook or tell her to use google maps by asking for directions using 'via transit' or by saying open google maps. Since I have the google app, I can tell Siri to look something up in Google. The functions are more limited if I use the iSpeech button. By using hey Siri I also get the answers through the car speakers. I am still playing but that is what I have learned so far. The car is red with oyster/black and only the cold weather package. I am interested in what others on the forum are learning. Thanks.

Old thread, new question...
Most of the time the steering-wheel button triggers Siri as expected, but sometimes when dictating a text message or something else that expects arbitrary length speech, there doesn't seem to be a reliable way to indicate that I'm done talking. Most of the time after ~20 seconds of silence it will come back and assume I'm done, but sometimes it doesn't and the only user option is to select the offered "STOP" on iDrive, or push the wheel button again which also just disconnects and the message is lost. What am I doing wrong? |

For the record, Siri direct on the phone reliably and correctly assumes I'm done after only a 1-2s pause. I've tried it in the car while stationary with no background noise and it was the same.

Have you tried holding down the button for the duration of your speech?
